7. 会社のうちの前で部長に怒られると恥ずかしくなるのは当然でしょう。
(? I can't understand what 会社のうちの前で means.)
I saw in my dictionary that うち can also mean "colleagues or co-workers", so what I was trying to say in this sentence is: It's normal/natural to get embarrassed whenever one gets scolded by the department head
in front of ones' co-workers in the company. Since I couldn't get the message across, this must be an incorrect usage of vocabulary. What word should I use instead of うち?
10. 先の銀行でお金を下ろせばよかったです。
(先の?)
For this one, by 先の銀行, I was trying to say the bank (that I passed by) a while ago.
11. そのパーティーに行かなければよかった。
(The context その is possible to be used is rare. I think あの is the one you thought.)
あのパーティーに行かなければよかった。Yes.
14. 試験はもう明日だ。。。友だちと遊ぶばかりでなくもっと / 遊んでばかりじゃなくてもっと勉強すればよかった。
Thank you for the correction. So, the expression ~ばかり can be conjugated with the dictionary form of the verb (e.g. 見る) or the ~て form of the verb (見て), did I get it right?
And, looking at ばかり being used with ではなく/じゃなくて, is ばかり treated as a noun?
15. 最近、太りました / 太ったんです。ダイエットすればよかったです。
(太りましたよ can mean "you become fat" basically only when you deny the addressee's word (e.g. 「昔と体型変わらないね」「いやぁ、最近太りましたよ」). It usually interpreted "you become fat".)
Haha.
Okay.
And, I have one more question: what is the difference between お読みになっている(progressive form of お読みになる) and 読んでいらっしゃる(progressive form 読んでいる)? And, what is the difference between いっらしゃいる (this can be several things but) and お行きになる, wherein both imply 行く?
I am now studying honorific form of verbs, and this question just popped up in my mind. Which is more "honorific" or more commonly used?
Thank you again Toritoribe!
