Random Questions about MEXT

Hey guys..

I'm sorry, you might have heard and thought of this things 1000 times, but it's so hard do read through millions of threads and not getting those answers i want to know.

So i'm asking you, who have already gone through that MEXT-procedure:

I'm planing on applying for MEXT 2011 (Master in fields of Genetics...dunno what exactly, i'm not sure yet)

SOOO
When i apply for 2011, the Course starts in April 2011 ?

And what about the Language Program / Course / Training whatever ?
Has that to be done in Japan from Okt. 2010 - April 2011 ?
Are those 6 months also financially supported by MEXt / Japanese Government, or do you have to get money for this yourself?


Because all i can read from the information from the embassy is, that you have to attend a Language Course in Japan before you start to study.

BUT in the handout stands, that you get money from April 2010 - March 2012 OR Oktober 2010 - March 2010, INCLUDING 6 months Language training.




So im really confused!
I mean if the language training was at the same time like my normal studys.. OK no problem, I could post-apply to 2010 and start in Oktober.. but 12 months for masteral degree.. too short!
I know i could do the JLPT Level 1 here allready, but i live in a small city, and we only got one Japanese language course here, and it's really bad! And learning all on my own...


And when i start in April 2011 .. I mean.. 1,5 years! .. and I've just 3 stupid courses left to finish my Bachelor. You know in 1,5 years I could already finish my master here until my Japan-Adventure starts ..

lets assume you are applying in 2011 and you do manage to receive the scholarship.

you will enter april of next year, 2012. this will be a waiting period of 2.5 years. if you are in a hurry to get a masters degree, dont bother with the scholarship. if you planned ahead, applied this year, and skip the language course... you could save a lot of time.

if you do enter the language course, it will take place the first school semester of your scholarship, april 2012~, while you are getting the scholarship. so they are paying for it.

you dont "have to" attend the language course. the decision will be made depending on your major/prof and current skill level.

I think you read some things incorrectly.
first of all, JLPT lvl 1 is the most diffiicult level. I think you meant to say lvl 4.
You will enter as a "research student" and attempt to enter the masters course. At this time, you will also be taking the language course. If you succeed, your scholarship will be EXTended for another 2 years, giving you 2 years to finish masters course.

Oh i ment applying for 'MEXT 2011' not in 2011 .. of course it would be 2012 to start.
(So i apply in 2010 for 2011)


And i ment lvl 1, because the embassy homepage says that you need that level to be allowed to enter a University in Japan.
So my thought was, maybe doing the JLPT 1 next year June/July or December and start of with my master course in April, so i can avoid 6months language course... or so.

ah ok my mistake. also, from your post, it seems like you are beginning japanese, hence is why i assume you meant lvl4.

JLPTlvl1 requirement is really difficult. i think t really depend on your major. usually for science, japanese isnt so important. sometimes, you dont even need any japanese ability to enter the university. there are 5 foreign students in my lab and they can only say konnichiha.

But when i decide to post apply.. when would be the last chance to do that, so i can start of in Okt. 2010 ?

If you wanted to start october 2010, it would have been this past application cycle, meaning the one that ended this past summer 2009. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. ::sorry:
