I recently learned about the MEXT scholarship, and I can't stop reading about it and learning more. But, after reading everything in the Japanese Embassy in my country (Tunisia), and lots of forum threads etc..., I still have some questions. I'd really appreciate it if you could answer them...
1) When is the application ?
After the holidays are finished (September), I pass my final year in high school and then sit for the Baccalauréat Exam (like the High School Diploma or General Education Diploma in the U.S.), which is finished in June. When do I need to apply ? When are the exams ? Will they interfere with my Bac Exam ?
2) The tests !
I have checked out the previous years' tests. I'm pretty good and I always have great results, especially in maths and physics. My question is about the Japanese Language. It's stated in the embassy's website that It's not required to know Japanese. Can I be selected without passing the Japanese Exam ? I'm sure I can get good results in the other tests, but I don't even know the Japanese alphabet so I couldn't even read last year's test. Also another question, could anyone give me a link or something about the lessons that we're expected to prepare ? Math lessons are similar to our curriculum in Tunisia, but for example physics are more related to the 3rd high school lessons than to the final year. So ?
3) Japan !
I know that it's very important to know some Japanese to actually live in Japan, and I'm planning to start an online program to familiarize myself a bit more with everyday sentenses in Japanese. I know it's not the best method to learn it, but I might opt for something better if I get selected, and of course there's a year to learn Japanese in Japan before you start your degree studies. Do you have any other tips for me ?
4) The degree !
I know it all depends on the Japanese University you actually select, but generally speaking, if I get a Japanese University degree in a certain field, what does that mean ? I'm mainly interested in "Electric and Electronic Studies (Electronics,
Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering,
Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture,
Environmental Engineering)". Will the degree be compatible with other countries, or does it mean I'll work in Japan (That's actually one of my dreams but I like keeping my options) ? What kinds of jobs are to be expected ? What countries would have jobs for someone with such a degree ?
5) Holidays ?
This is actually a bit of a silly question but it's really important to me. Are there holidays in this Scholarship Program ? I'm mainly interested in visiting my family each year, so is that possible ? (I know that the plane costs wouldn't be provided for by the Scholarship Program)
I know it's a lot of questions, and it's probably still a bit early for me to ask them, but as you can see I'm really excited for it and since I heard about it two days ago I couldn't stop digging for more information. So could you please answer me ?
