Here are two YouTube video giving us a glimpse into Japanese high schools. (Most high schools in Japan are either girl's high schools or boy's high schools.) Also, all high school students in Japan wear uniforms. At 5:46 the class eats lunch in their classroom. At 7:08 they sweep up the classroom.
Watch from 2:54 as the girls at a co-ed high school have lunch in the lunchroom. The girl buys a ticket from a vending machine for lunch, then gives the ticket to the lunchroom worker and gets lunch. This removes the need for lunchroom personnel to handle money, and I have also used this ticket system at cheaper restaurants in Japan. (I think it is unusual for schools to have a lunchroom instead having the students each lunch in their classroom, although I am not sure about this.)

Here is a look at an elementary school fifth grade class having lunch in their classroom. The 'star' of the video, Yui-chan, gives a look at what she takes to school in her backpack from 0:40, including a luncheon mat, chopsticks, a toothbrush to use after eating lunch, and a cup to use as she rinses her mouth after brushing her teeth. From 1:10 we see how the children walk to school in a group, chaperoned by a couple of parents. From 2:47 we see how all the students put on a smock and 'cap' for lunch. (I think most schools in Japan do not require a smock and cap for lunch, although I am not sure about this.) The 'lunch monitors' (the students who distribute lunch) also go through an interesting checklist from 3:08 before handling the food.

Japanese high schools have 'sports festivals' where students compete in track and field events.
The following video shows scenes of a race carrying spoons of water from 0:38, which I think is quite unusual for a Japanese 'sports festival'.

The national summer high school baseball tournament is a big deal in Japan. Take a look at the colorful groups from 0:18 supporting their high schools.

Some overseas people are thinking about attending an English-speaking four-year college in Japan. Here is a PR advertising video for one of the top English-language colleges in Japan, Sophia University. (This is about programs taught in English. Programs taught in Japanese is a whole different topic.)

Another well-known university in Japan for foreign students is the International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo. One of the nice things about ICU is it is not in crowded downtown Tokyo (like many other universities in Tokyo), it is out in the suburbs to the west of Tokyo.

Another English-speaking university in Tokyo is Temple University Japan Campus (but with a bit less reputation than the two previously mentioned universities). It is the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan, founded in 1982. It has a cooperative study program with Showa Women's University, which is next door (in Sangenjaya, Shibuya, Tokyo).

Waseda University is one of the oldest and most prestigious private universities in Japan. According to this PR video, Waseda has 8,000 international students, 56 degree programs taught in English, and over 3,000 courses taught in English.

I can't resist posting a video of Waseda's school song. I will never forget watching a group of Waseda students singing Waseda! Waseda! while standing in front of Shinjuku Station late at night on a weekend. Listen to わせだ！ わせだ！ from 1:18.
