The events that unfold in the new documentary "Abduction: The Megumi Yokota Story" could have been told as fiction, but they would have seemed too much—too unbelievable, too merciless. We never meet the girl in the title, who is presumed dead. All we have are photographs, the recollections of others, and a recording of her singing a Schumann solo in a school concert.

Megumi was a thirteen-year-old living in Niigata, Japan, when she vanished, on November 15, 1977. For years, her parents heard nothing. There were reports of "something strange" on the northwestern coast of Japan—young couples were going missing—but it took two decades for the truth to come out ................ on and on .................................................................................................................................................................................................... The film, directed by Chris Sheridan and Patty Kim and produced by Jane Campion,............ on and on..........................

I put this in politics, because this seems to be a well made movie that will make a lot of people very angry in Japan. A movie this good and a true story is bound to stir emontions. Ignoring the terrible tragedy, and awfullness of the poor girl "Megumi Yokota"

I read somewhere that one North Korean abduction, the person abducted (Japanese teenager), was put in a freight containter. Her fignernails mark the sides of the container.

I am sure their have been many documentaries on Japan TV. But a real movie, made well could have an impact beyond anything on TV so far !

I read the full review. Is this story been told soo many times, nothing new for the Japanese people. Or will this be such an important documentary that the government of Japan must discuss and answer to ?

I agree with Tuskcracker that this movie will be nothing new to the Japanese. But it will be for all those other people in the world who are interested in the story.

I think it is a good thing that they made this movie, because it surely was a shocking happening. They say that she is death (her husband, and daughter said that), but I am not sure if I can believe this.

In the abduction case of Lebanese people, the government and anti-government group united to save the victims from the DPRK. And they succeeded
I hope all victims, not only Japanese but South Koreans, Chinese, other Asians and Europeans are saved soonest possible.

I believe the poor women have been abducted, but I really don't believe that in 1978, when all socialist countries were open to each other, and many East Europeans visited the exotic Eastern country, somebody would have to abduct Muslim women, hispanic looking, to marry them to some Caucasian Christians, when they had the choise just to persuade some European from the socialist countries to marry "the man who had the strenght to flee from the enemy's nest " or stuff like that. They had whole Russia.

Just doesn't make sense,Lebanese abducted from Paris to marry Americans in 1978...

It was in Beirut that the young women were abducted.
CBS will air a program, Defector Won't Leave N. Korea For $1B, this weekend.

Still doesn't make sence...Why go to such dangerous place as Beirut in 1978 to look for muslim women to marry the Americans, to force them to get married. Why take all these pains when , as I stated above, there is so much easier way to find them brides (ex-socialist countries, young Christian girls, exotic Eastern country, heroes who turned their back to the rotten capitalism, blah-blah,no visa, all safe and clean...)There must be something else!

Please don't misunderstand me

These people are cunning, like foxes. The regime doesn't make sence for anyone from our side, but until several years ago most East European countries and Russia were like that.In any aspect.Maybe this is some typical Asian feature added to the komunist ideas, so that regime survived in North Korea, but to think of them as some crazy people and that the regime doesn't make sence-this is a mistake. This is what they want-to be underestimated.
There is another purpose for abducting the Lebanese girls.Maybe the key is the political situation there and the fact that the abducted were young women (with certain knowledge, for sure).

I watched the video, but nothing was said about his first wife, except that she is white.

The first Dresnok's wife was said to be kidnapped in Italy, not her home country, Rumania.

How did you get this information?
I could swear you are a journalist, and usualy my sixth sence doesn't lie to me.

Jenkins san said so.
I assume he must have more freedom than Dresnok.

About Japanese kidnapped from Europe, the cases advanced after an ex-Red Japan Army member confessed her crime.
