A female employee at a Pokémon merchandise shop was fatally stabbed at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro yesterday evening. The suspected attacker later stabbed himself and also died, in an incident that unsettled shoppers during the spring break period.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was attacked at about 19:16 inside a shopping mall, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The man, 26, is believed to have stabbed her in the neck. Both were taken to the hospital and were pronounced dead within about an hour. TV Asahi reported that the woman worked at the Pokémon Centre Mega Tokyo on the second floor of the Sunshine City complex. The man was said to have been holding knives in both hands.
The woman consulted the police in January, and her former boyfriend was put under a restraining order. He knew she worked at the Pokémon Centre in Ikebukuro, her dream job, which she was unwilling to give up.
