News PM Takaichi ranks third on Forbes’ most powerful women list

Forbes said she is the first woman to become prime minister of Japan, a nation with a GDP of 4 trillion dollars. It also said her decisions "will shape East Asian power dynamics and global manufacturing stability" at a time when it has become increasingly important to innovate AI technology and bolster supply chains for semiconductors and other critical products. The top two women on the list were the same as last year. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was first and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde came in second. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was fourth, followed by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Politicians and other figures of major economies have been chosen. Women on the list take active roles in a variety of fields including information technology and finance. But Forbes notes that "the highest tiers of power remain selectively guarded" and differences still remain from men in the top positions.
