I really need some help here... I'm designing a new hoodie for my karate club and I want it all right. Our motto is Effort - Patience - Politeness and I need to get the signs right. Here's what I have:
Effort = 努
Patience = 忍耐
Politeness = 礼儀

Here is a picture of the symbols on the hoodie we have now.

I really hope someone can help me...

Thanks in advance

I can't change the symbols... Our sensei set them, so I have to use them... Sorry

I am not changing the characters.
If you look at your pic you attatched you are missing a character in effort. There are 2 characters and in your post you only have one.

note: 努力 is two characters and must be written as such, regardless of whether you do them horizontally or vertically.

This might seem obvious but I have seen goofs such as someone taking the word 折紙 and writing it vertically in four pieces (so making 紙 into 糸+氏 ). This was on an actual item for sale in a store (bad package designer, no biscuit).

The layout in the original shirt is fine so best to just stick to something similar if you're not familiar with the language.

Your picture is right to me but patience is more like 我慢 (がまん)
So, you must know the difference between 忍耐 and 我慢. Can I ask you to explain it to me? I believed they were the same in meaning.

Good morning!

Thanks for all the replies.
If I'm not mistaken, the original was made by our sensei Tsutom Watanabe way back. (The guy looks like he's a 100 years old, but with a body of a 18 year old...)
Effort = 努
Patience = 忍耐
Politeness = 礼儀
As I understand these symbols are the same as on the hoodie. (kind of hard to figure out some of them...) Am I right?

Have a lovely day!

Thilia

You missed the two characters in 努力 again.....
