I'm trying to write japanese using JWPce and a japanese reference guide (that I got on this site) for basic phrases

I am probably the worst writer of japanese. Yet I plan to live there someday :sigh: I Guess everyone has to start somewhere. I know a lot of this probably won't make any sense in japanese because I know I have either not said the right words, or there may be missing particles since particles are very hard for me. I also learned in an japanese program (Japanese Smart Start) that the particle mo means also but I don't think it does. How do I say because in japanese?

Thank you. It is to Hiroyuki Nagashima
Hello,
こんにちわ
Do I translate this text into Japanese?
この文章を日本語に訳すのですか? <---- (どういう意味ですか?)Note: I am confused with "どういう意味ですか" It is Do iu imi desu ka not Do uiu imi desu ka?)

Do you watch "The Simpsons" in japanese?
=あなたは、日本語で「シンプソン」を見ますか? (カワイイ!ありがとうございます。)

いええ。すめません。ごめなさい。::sigh::
英語はください!= (Please speak in english, if you can.) because.. 日本語がわかりません。= (I do not speak japanese.) ごめんなさい。= ("I am sorry.")
Please teach me japanese, 先生

"Because" 日本語なんですか?

もです、どちらのご出身ですか? 私はアメリキン人です(います?)私はどちらの(Ontario, California. United States Of America)です。
お大事に。また会いましょう!

Also, please dont flame me or critize me for my poor japanese. I shouldn't really have to go through that. I don't want any mikecash comments. I even sent him an apology letter and he doesn't care to respond back.

Aah!! I posted this in the english section!

How do I move it?

Ask a moderator/advisor/tutor/ or admin to move it for you. Non-staff do not have the power.

O, to find one, see the bottom of the main forum page. You should be able to find a colored (but not yellow) unsername. Send him/her a PM telling what (give link if you can) needs to be moved where (be specific).

EDIT: I see our admin, MACIAMO, is in right now. Hurry !

I think you are right. 「どういう意味ですか」is "Do iu imi desuk ka?"
いええ。すめません。ごめなさい。::sigh::
「すめません」should be 「すみません」
「日本語が話せませんので、出来れば、英語で話していただけますか。ごめんなさい、先生。どうか、日本語を教えてください。」(This is the most polite expression. )
「日本語が話せませんので、出来れば、英語で話してもらえますか」
「日本語が話せないので、出来れば、英語で話してくれますか」(more casual expression)
もです、どちらのご出身ですか?
I 'm not sure what you mean 「もです」. It seems some words are missing.
「私はアメリカ人です。カリフォルニアのオンタリオから来ました」
Is this what you mean?

Hmm I don't know. Does it say I was born in Ontario CA?

Thank you so much

I have moved the thread into the right category.

Technically that says you came from Ontario, CA, not that you were necessarily born there.

I read it and I seem to recall sending a reply receipt. I don't care to have an ongoing dialogue via private messages, which is why I didn't reply. Also, you seem not to understand the meaning of the word "private" in "private message".

You seem very hard on yourself. Don't be sighing all over the place. You should be excited about what you do know. Not grieving about what you don't. You apparently understand enough grammar to write what you have written and that takes effort. If you don't want to think hard or try then you can't really learn. So you will be confused a lot. That's ok.

I also think that this post was pointless not only because it was a double-post(use the edit) but because your post was fine(of course except what I said above). There was no reason to be mad at you for your original post. You gave your attempts and explained what was confusing you which is perfect.

Now that that's over with, I'll try to help out a little to make for all the bashing .

The particle mo does mean also but only as a particle. It adds what's in front of it to the topic. Like when you say 私はアメリカ人です, you could say あなたもアメリカ人ですか? to mean "Are you also an american?" Not for "also"s that begin sentences. Those kind of things are different and I'm not really sure what you can say for that. I'm assuming that's what you meant by もです. The sentences still work without "also"s in front of them so you I'm sure they have other ways to be less direct when adding more information.

For that sentence intial "also" I usually go with sore ni, sono ue, or something like that.

Before an end sentence like here, instead of もです、I think "また" (and, in addition, moreover, also -- very convenient word to know and remember) or "最後に" (finally) are good. Also, was 永島さん sick ? That's the only time you really need to worry about using お大事に。 気をつけてね!is the regular conversation version.
