This is really heartbreaking and speaks of severe social isolation.

At least 76,941 people across Japan died alone at home in 2025, according to figures released by the NPA, 22,222 of which were not discovered until eight days or more after their deaths. The government reportedly uses the "eight days or more" benchmark as a rough measure when identifying and counting so-called isolated deaths.
