I've been seeing promos for Fox's latest reality TV show, "Who's Your Daddy". Here's a brief description...

The Fox network said Tuesday it will air a special next month, "Who's Your Daddy?", where a daughter given up for adoption as an infant attempts to guess the identity of her birth father for a $100,000 prize.

These shows have been getting worse and worse and this is just too much. Plastic surgery, weight loss, and now finding your father(!). It's just exploitative. They're just messing with this girl to get ratings.

"This is really perverse," said Adam Pertman, executive director of the Evan P. Donaldson Adoption Institute, a research and policy organization. "It takes a deeply personal and important experience and turns it into a money-grubbing game show. I think it is despicable."

Why don't they just introduce her to her father, rather than this whole song and dance. I'm sure she's agreed to it, but that doesn't make it ok. She probably just wants the money. I'm getting so tired of these shows. I've never watched them, but they negatively affect the culture by making this kind of behaviour seem ok.

Those cosmetic surgery shows have got women believing that if they don't look like a supermodel, they should get surgery or they're just not putting in the appropriate effort and they're "selling themselves short".

These kinds of shows are socially irresponsible and ARE NOT OK!! If you're opposed to these kinds of shows, please boycott them BY NOT WATCHING.

Oh yeah -- just when you would think that TV programming couldn't go any lower, somebody slithers down into the dirt just a bit more and connects with an even baser level of stupidity in the viewing public. I refuse to watch any of this reality TV. Compared to this kind of crap, "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Green Acres" seem like intelligent programming.

yeah, i thought jerry springer was bad, but thats the threshold of pure tastelesness. it seems that "america" has become the new roman empire of sorts, delving into all kinds of twisted pschological predators and fetishes. american ppl just love to stick there nose into evryone elses business, and now exploiting it in a very shamefull manner, fitting for a culture with an identity crisis. ahhh, i think of "do androids dream of electric sheep", and wonder, how far off emotionally is the average person from the replicant?

I watch Reality Shows that don't involve deep personal feelings. Feelings such as finding lost family or pretending to be straight to get a woman's affection to win a million dollars. I like the Amazing Race.

With Who's your Daddy?, I have this to say, How lower could these networks get? I understand, there are laws that protect children given up for adoption but the thing with this woman is that she signed up. Tsk tsk tsk. Does she really want to find her father or she's just interested in the money?

A friend of mine living in California has this to say of that reality TV show which subjected women to the plastic surgery: "Dumb show, dumber women, when they see themselves for the first time after the intense make over, they'd still cover their faces as if their new image is scarier..." Personally, I think these women are just slaves to their insecurity. They have wonderful family who love them and yet they are not content with their looks. Besides it's not as if they are deformed.

We had "Lukso ng Dugo" or rough translation, "Rush of the Blood". An apt title for a reality show which helped adopted kids find their biological parents. You will supposedly feel a kind of rush when you've finally met your true parents or when your true parents have finally found you.

Well, I'm not surprised that Fox did this. They hit a low point with, what was it called, The Swan?. Find "unattractive" women, make 'em "beautiful", and then judge their "beauty". Seems to me that they're still enforcing a sterotype.

All I can say is thay Fox has become masters of the "Rubber-necking at the highway accident". I think that we are partially to blame, as we accept what Fox and the other networks, even the news, gives us. People are so busy, that they just drop in front of the tv and just watch. That being said, I haven't watched Fox in some time and don't intend to watch anytime soon. I don't watch any of these shows. Sadly, if I want to watch a "reality" show, I'll watch the news.

I don't really see this as an "America thing" although things like this seem to happen in America a lot, especially recently. But it's not like the government is making these shows and it's not like these shows don't happen in other countries. To me it's more an issue of corporate greed and exploitation (something that admittedly happens a lot in America, but America doesn't have a monopoly on) and the masses being suckered and herded like sheep to go along with it.

The unfortunate fact is that offending people is profitable. The media and entertainment was forever changed the day that someone realized that half the people listening to The Howard Stern Show were people who hated Howard Stern. We have to put some of the blame on the people who watch these shows and make them profitable. I would also blame the networks who stoop to these levels for a profit.

Hmm....does that mean they'll have embedded contestants joining the troops in Iraq and see how many survive, literally, while being shot at and bombed and attacked on live TV feeds to win the million dollars?

Or will they have contestants going to areas where extremists of various religions in isolated pockets around the world to see how many survive amidst holy wars from any side all at once?

or will people start going into network television wars, where contestants battle the opposing network's contestants, and see who gets "Fired" by Trump for failing to undermine the other network's contestants?

I can see the future of Quality Time Family oriented television now... LOL

There are 5 girls who go on a date with a real nice guy for 5 months. Then around the end of the show they have to decide to prosecute the rapist or not! If they prosecute him then don't the million dollars. The thing is. They don't know they are on a reality show and they don't know that the decision they make will either get them a million dollars or nothing at all!

Can I just say that all reality TV shows are pointless? I don't see how they benefit us as society. What's the matter with the people who go on them? Are they that desperate for 15 minutes of fame?

Kinda like a play a friend of mine wrote for her senior project in high school, four years ago. Cept in her version, each person voted off was killed by the producers of the show. Needless to say, she didn't have a very high opinion of reality shows even when they weren't to the level of this adoption thing.

Which, by the way, I hear there's at least one station that's refusing to show it, don't remember which state it's in. (I found it on msnbc.com about it not being shown.)

The whole premise of a panel of men posing as a girl's father for money sounds so boring and undramatic I can't believe it's going to a ratings winner for Fox. I agree with Mac but I would like to add desperate for money in the equation. Otherwise why would she expose herself to stupidity, disappointment and humiliation? If she chose the wrong daddy that would be disappointment and humiliation right?! :?

Just because people will do it, watch it, or want it, doesn't make it ok. In Rome, I'm sure there were people opposed to the Gladiator fights, but it was so popular that no one could stop it. Too bad, what's popular isn't always what's right.

Did this, "Who's Your Daddy" show ever air. I remember seeing promos for it and then I never heard anything more about it. Maybe all the outcry caused them not to air it. If so, I'm glad the message sent to the producers was that people just wouldn't stand for this kind of thing.

Reality tv has ruined tv for me. I guess it's a good thing because I watch 99% less tv now lol but I substitute in DVD's and videogames but overall I rarely watch any "new" tv shows just old ones like Knight Rider, A Team, Kojak etc. The day reality tv dies all of mankind will benifit.
