Again thanks Thomas and Maciamo for the work you guys are making for us! really appreciated, guess we should make a present for you guys... how?
A small voluntary donation from many of the regular members would be nice as I'm sure this upgrade costs quite a bit of money.

I will have a look in my wallet!🙂

I just made my donation, It ain't much but it is something :D ! arigato for the work you guys are doing!!!

I think a lot of regulars are like myself who have considered donating in the past
and are not at all reluctant to do whatever they can now. The thing that is just a little awkward is not having any idea of the amounts involved in an upgrade or what other members are doing....knowing mine would probably end up being embarrassingly inadequate at the bottom of the heap. 😊

im sure any ammont would help the cause in some way or another. I myself donated $10 and to me that is a fair donation for a forum board. $10 is my no means a great deal of money and will not go far but i figure... 10's and 20's add up and will help get them what they need.

Something i have seen other websites do is make a wishlist to say and a price range to go along with it. and many times instead of people paying the money they may just go out and buy the items needed or like in my case if they needed an extra HD or something along those lines i build computers and would be glad to donate 1. depending on what they need.

Jref Is Better Than Cable Tv !!

I try and send about $25 every 3 months, if I remember. I figure a $100 a year is well worth the value I get back from JREF. Much better entertainment from JREF then television!

Frank

😊

OK--it'll be more a token of appreciation for the great work here but
fortunately those are all in a range my present salary can survive. ;).

Didn't there used to be a donate button at the bottom of the screen, though ?
:?

what is this thing you call a wallet?

It holds money. When he says look in his wallet, it means he wants to see if he/she has money to spend.

When one donates, is it possible to choose to have the word "donor" under one's name instead of "donator"? Or to have nothing at all show up there?

I'm sure you could ask admin not to change your usergroup, yes. But you would miss out on the donor's benefits.

It isn't bashfulness over having it known that I had donated that prompts the question. My big stumbling block is the use of "donator" instead of "donor". I'd rather have nothing at all there than that.

That, along with my ongoing state of abject poverty, is the primary reason I have never donated.

I think the latter is a better reason, although the former is amusing.

I have nothing against donating, but I find PayPal account a hassle (I never had the need) and I don't want to use credit card information on the Web.

I've been a user of a book vendor website and had my personal information leaked in a hacker attack.:(

Isn't donator just an archaic or less used form of donor
with exactly the same meaning ? As far as doing it all anonymously. I'm not in it for my own benefit so that would be my preference as well. :-)

Far, far less used. Webster's Online indicates that "donator" shows up about 2 times per 100 million words while "donor" shows up about 291 per 100 million. I find "donator" very odd and awkward sounding and don't wish to have it appear with my name above it.

I don't really think that it is worth JREF's time to cater to my gittitude on the donor/donator thing, but I do believe that allowing access to donor benefits (whatever they are) while allowing the option of leaving the appellation off entirely may be worthy of consideration.

I made a quick Google search and "donator" gave 926,000 results, which isn't that low.

Personally, "donor" always reminds me of "blood donor" or "organ donor". Therefore, I find it strange to use it as a "user title".

I have a similar conundrum. I don't feel comfortable with the idea that 窶弖ツ皇 might appear under my "name". I'm serious. I most certainly am not a 窶弖ツ皇 nor do I think it should be used to refer to anyone other than a real 窶弖ツ皇 .

I was thinking of donating to Jref when it becomes an issue to remove the problem!

"Donor" gives about 110 million.

Somewhat over 100 times more common, just as indicated by Webster's.

"Donator" just strikes me as not even being a real word.

I have to agree to that.

Point taken. I am also in favour of changing the current system of user titles.

Regardless of what Webster's says, that's the way we call supportive users here at JREF.

Anyhow, while I do appreciate your support and loyalty to JREF, I don't want this thread to digress, so instead of expanding on the donors/donators issue let's please refocus on the proposed changes.

:-)

It's unfortunate in a sense if this were imposed on anyone by a vocal minority, at the same time I concur with all the above and agree the changes will be 100% positive. 👍 The numbers of people here ranging from neutral to downright hostile towards Japan and who are embarrassed never to post anything Japan related are too unbalanced to make the current arrangement tenable in the long-term, in my opinion at least.

On the donor/donator point, donor is the most common term used for charitable donors, in American English anyway, so I don't feel anything particuarly strange using that in this context.

"Donor" would be the proper term. You can also use the word "contributor."
