The thread title got peoples attention so that someone could clarify what we read.
Our "subsequent" post read; "Thank you so much for the feedback. This is why we decided to visit forums like these. Well appreciated"
And that same "subsequent" post contained the article that we read. Which was a direct response to nice gaijin's "I have never heard anything like that; what's your source?"
If you were paying attention you would have saw the flow of the thread, but we understand......and once again, thanks!

I saw your response to the other thread, but did not see you citing a source, which is what I was asking for.
And for the links in my first response, I'd like to point out that they are mostly reviews, guides and responses to inquiries written by people that have been to or live in Japan. Everyone has their own opinion of whatever clubs they've been to, but asking about the top nightclubs in Tokyo is just as good as consulting the links I provided.

I don't know Tokyo, but if you're ever in Seoul, go to the Hongdae, Gangnam, and of course Itaewon sections of town. In Hongdae, The Music Bar 1&2, and Club Envy are pretty chill. Also, just hitting bars around Shinchon (1 station over) is pretty chill as well.
I don't know Gangnam as well, but it's sort of the modern section of town and there are a lot of nice clubs. Itaewon is where the US airforce base is located, and its also the most internationalized area of the city. There are many clubs and bars, and more.
I was in Seoul recently, I just thought I'd say what I know about it in case anyone may be going there any time.

Well, like I've posted on this forum too many times already 
, I'm a keen supporter of Womb & Module. Ageha is another gigantic venue. Personally I love the athmosphere & people in Womb as well as the line ups (techno & drum'n'bass).
These venues aren't for the ones who love the touristic drunken hanging out though, but are for the ones who are genuinely into the music scene and are "serious clubbers".
The thing with Tokyo nightlife at the moment is that clubs are dying and new ones born all the time.

Womb and Ageha have been around a while. Long enough. 2 months ago saw one of the longest running good clubs in town die (Yellow). There really is no "top club". It depends on the event, as they are run by different promoters. You may find yourself enjoying yourself with a nice variety of people one night, and the next, surrounded only by men b/c women aren't allowed in.

Wow I didn't knew Yellow quited. I was there only once in April, and I thought they had the best setting inside I had seen so far at any club in Tokyo.
Anyway, a great website I recommend to anyone who's looking for club reviews and upcoming events in Tokyo:
NEWTYPE K.K.
Before you go out, you have to ask yourself where you wanna go: Roppongi, Shibuya and Shinjuku are the main places for going out. Each place has it's own good and bad points:
Roppongi: Many clubs and bars don't have entrance fee, but the drinks tend to be quite expensive (up to 1000 yen). You can also go to Roppongi on your own, cause it's easy to meet foreigners or Japanese people that are interested in talking to you. The people in Roppongi tend to be somewhat older though, and at popular 'nampa' places, there may be some annoying drunken foreigners who embarissingly try to score a girl for the night.
Clubs and bars I would recommend at least trying (remember, there's no entrance fee): Wallstreet, 911, Gaspanic bar+club 99 and Lexington (have entrance fee but cool place).
As for music at these places. If you're not into any particular genre, then you'ill like it. It's mainly commercial stuff they play, but good stuff for dancing and having fun. These places are all near the station. I'd say Wallstreet is probably my favorite bar. The setting is really "bar"-like, so you can talk to people but at the same time dance (if it's not overcrowded). Wallstreet also tends to be one of the only places where people go on weekdays like monday, when other places like gaspanic bar are empty. Drinks are reasonably priced there, buddweiser for 800 yen. Take the street (station is right at the corner) that runs right to Tokyo tower. Walk on the left, and I think the 2nd left street is the one you need to take for wallstreet. Most of the time there's a guy from the staff waiting outside (foreign guy usually), the bar is underground so check if he's standing next to stairs.
If you really want to do a looooong night in Roppongi, you can always go to one of the bars that are on the upper floors (most of the time run by Nigerian guys). They stay open till last customer which is sometimes untill 10 AM. These places are quite empty (duh..), and you won't really care about the music anymore..
Shibuya: Most, if not all clubs have entrance fee up to 3000 yen (depends on whether they have event or not), but drinks are cheaper (starting at 500 yen) but also sometimes not that strong. People in Shibuya are younger, and the girls are overal cuter too (without the extreme ganguro taken in account). Not so many foreigners here, so go with some friends if you don't feel confident enought to conversate in Japanese. Most clubs in Shibuya are also not that good to meet people, most of them are there for music. Overal the scene is quite hiphop orientated.
Clubs: Atom, Club asia, Vuenos
Atom is a nice club if you're into R&B/Hip Hop, trance/techno and house/psychedelic. They have 3 floors playing it. The setting is typically club-like, so if you don't feel like dancing you are just not at the right place there. When there's no particular event, entrance fee will be 3000 yen after midnight. If you go before midnight, it's sometimes only 1000 yen. Also, sometimes there will be staff giving out flyers for atom early on the evening. They will stand right at the entrance of Center Gai just in front of the Hachiko crossing. There's an invitation card pinned on it. Give it when you enter Atom, and you'ill only have to pay 2000 yen and get 1 drink for free. Also check out the flyer (it's actually more of a guide) for upcoming events. Some very succesfull DJ's come play at Atom so check it out if you're interested.
As for club asia and vuenos. They have dance and rap performances over there that will get annoying easily (Japanese B-boys are noooo good). If you want to dance, these places are bad cause the flow gets interrupted all the time between two performances. Then again, sometimes they do have special events with some local bands playing (at least at Vuenos) sometimes early in the evening. If you go there with friends, it's very entertaining.
Shinjuku: Well, I don't really know anything about it. Even though I lived right in the centre of Nishi-Shinjuku. I only know that clubs are very underground there..
Alright, that's about it as for my knowledge of the party-scene in Tokyo. Remember that there are also very interesting clubs outside Shibuya-Roppongi-Shinjuku. Take a look at the website I gave you I'd say, and experiment !
