New baby girl and writing on feet

I watched a film and a Young Japanese woman who just gave birth to a little girl, wrote on the baby girl's feet in red ink. What is the purpose of this and what does it say.

That's the name of the mother. It's written in order to prevent babies being mixed up.

Wow, thanks for the response and answer. It was driving me nuts trying to figure it out and it turns out it was way more simpler than I thought. I can read the babies right foot Seiko, but what is written on the babies left foot?

Her surname 芝崎 "Shibasaki" or "Shibazaki".
