or maybe ぶつぶつ不平を言っているのをやめろよ ?

At first I was thinking simply うるさい or 黙れ, but I guess those are a bit too general, depending on the situation.

Yes, there are many ways to say it, depending on the situation.

Another alternative (maybe more versatile) is 文句を言うな（もんくをいうな）

To say to this someone who nitpicks, you can say いちいち文句を言うな

'Tis true, that makes it work through 1 or 2 more applications.....
I don't know what is going on with it freezing up and not displaying correctly....I have downloaded a bunch of security stuff lately and the new XP Service pac 2, but surely those wouldn't be impacting the language bar ? It may have been a setting I had to reset or defaulted to in the throes of that. Any bit of advice to speed up the process when I finally do have to use Tech Support would be appreciated....

You do realize how idiomatic this expression is, don't you? While you could directly translate it, it would have no meaning in Japanese. Can you explain the exact notion or connotation that you want to convey? If you tell us the meaning you want expressed, then it is easier to find a suitable Japanese expression.

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at here, either. Do you mean to say that you're cheering someone along as they do something? Or are you complimenting them after the task is done? Here are a couple phrases:

やるな！ This one might be the closest...
よくやった！ Good job!
見事だ。 Bit more formal... but means "excellent" or "well done"
がんばれ！ This one might work, too, depending on the context.
 
kiss my ***! is something you say when you don't wanna do something.

james: "you little girl do you want to get something for me that is 20 kilometers from here?"

girl: "no way, i'm going to do that. you can just kiss my ***".

I have the book Everyday Japanese so I know how to read it , but my copy of the book is from '86 and falling apart . In other words, I'd rather not use it anymore.

Take the dictionary form of the verb and put かよ！ after it. For example, やるかよ！ (Like hell I'm doing that!)

やるな! (Nice! Well done! etc) Pretty informal.
よくやった！ Good job!
見事だ。 Bit more formal... but means "excellent" or "well done"
がんばれ! This is the same as がんばって！, or try your best/don't give up.
