はい、同じような意味です。

UNICEFに行って調べてみましたが、数年前（1998年）のものなのでやや古いです。
最近の情報がほしいのですが・・。さらに、これは出産率であって、妊娠率ではありません。
中絶した人もいるので、ズレがあります。中絶した数によっては日本の妊娠率がヨーロッパ諸国の平均値を凌駕する可能性も0では無いので。

--> <name> wa nickname shika nai desu.

They actually use the English word for nickname, pronouncd nikkuneimu.

You can't use "shika nai" like that. That means "As for <name>, he only has a nickname". It should be more like "<name> ha tada no adana/nickname desu". (adana is the Japanese word for nickname. You can use either one.) Or if you want formal written style, "<name> ha adana ni suginai".

Does the と思 mean it's a personal thought? And what's the phrase after it? ってます?

not sure about the first part but the last part of the second line it maybe more of a thought."I am thinking blah blah blah"

Adana can be used for biting or cutting names as well....there's also tsuushou for 'a name that everyone knows')...

Can I get some help with seeing if my translations are passable?

Most of the photos I take are portraits. I also take photos of landscape scenery sometimes, but I don't travel much.

It seems like there are frequent meetings for photographers in Japan. These meetings are not as popular in Singapore yet.

I looked it up in a dictionary as well and it said : ピーマン
And on that website you added it said that as well (別名：カラーピーマン), but I think カラーピーマン must mean coloured green pepper, right?

Later on they mention the words トウガラシ (red pepper) and 唐辛子 (red pepper (the hot one right?)).
So can I use either of these? パプリカ or トウガラシ? And does パプリカ refer specifically to a red one?

I'm a little bit confused now :?

Edict:

今直ぐ; 今すぐ【いますぐ】 (adv) at once; immediately; right now

So I would say the middle line is "Please tell me right now." The rest seems good to me. Maybe someone else knows better though.

ピーマン is sweet, green (bell) pepper, the one that's not hot.
カラーピーマン is any sweet pepper that is not green--that is "paprika"
トウガラシ（唐辛子） is any kind of "hot" pepper, usually red.

So, what you're asking for is パプリカ or カラーピーマン. I hear "papurika" more often than "color piiman" these days.

Thank you very much for your help. I think our teacher wants us to say things differently, though. I'm pretty good at spelling and remembering characters, and pronunciation, but not so good at remembering what to say. I got 100% and 90% on my last 2 tests, but I'm worried the next test may be oral or we may have to translate something. Yikes. We're learning numbers 1-10 right now. I have to try to memorize those.

Anyone know of any good tricks to help you memorize things? ☝

Oh maybe one last question. If I wanted to specifically refer to a red パプリカ, could I use 赤いパプリカ or 赤いピーマン?

Sorry for going on about this, but I am asking this for a friend of mine who wants to paint 'red paprika' on her bedroom wall in Japanese (don't ask me why though ). I would hate to have to tell her that she's got it all wrong when the paint is already on the wall

Learn them in parts. So start with one, two, three and keep saying that all day long. The next day you add four, five, six en keep repeating one, two, three, four, five, six. Until you reach ten. Say them out loud and they'll stick around better

Having a little trouble getting my head around this sentence, despite having confirmed the meanings of most words.

言葉を通して喜怒哀楽（きどあいらく）をともにするとき、
言葉を通して美しさや優しさにあうとき、
人々は言葉のもつ不思議な力に気づく。

言葉を通して I found out means "through language".
喜怒哀楽 iI found out means feelings (although why not use just 気持ち??).
not sure about the もつ. could it be entrails? guts? and this means in context...??

When emotions are expressed verbally and beauty and tenderness are encountered through words, people notice the mysterious power of language （words have -- の持つ）。

If there has been a net loss in lyricism, I have no idea....the repetition of 言葉、通して and use of 喜怒哀楽 may be there for poetic emphasis or to have a hypnotic effect in the original.

Ah, ic. 言葉のもつ不思議な力, that's a bit tricky, especially since もつ isn't in kanji when just about everything else is... but yeah, thanks for your translations!

Thanks, I knew my translation sounded fishy, but I didn't know how to fix it.

Okay, so after looking in a few dictionaries and Google's translation function, I think I figured out why ともにする means "share". (I'm posting it just in case anyone else was wondering.) If I'm right, the kanji should be 共にする which basically means "to do together"; so we "do the human emotions together", or in other words we "share the human emotions." Thanks again, epigeneさん！勉強になりました！
