The problem is that letianchen engaged in the habit some English speakers have of misusing the very specific "this" as a substitute for the very nonspecific "a".

This results from sloppy writing and slangy misuse of English, not misreading on Toritoribe's part. His interpretation was correct in accordance with correct English usage....which wasn't used here.

Actually, as presented, it could be interpreted as either the girl or the guy speaking the sentence.

Yeah that is true indeed.

I guess i need to get off fb chat and playing online games, grammar there is at an all time low and it becomes habit to use it anywhere online, that is my fault :/. I know this is off topic but before I came to canada and knew english I learned alot of english playing grand theft auto LOL

I have never seen that word before so I am just using the definitions I see in the dictionary to see which one fits the best.

So it says
"to sense something"
"find out the truth"
"detect, discover"

so shouldnt it be something like "We will come figure out whats going on in an instant(since it has to do with this topic i.e his love life?)" I forgot the subject should be "we" in this situation that was my bad.

Also in response to that thread. I didnt respond because I was sure I knew the meaning, I was sure so I didnt respond, turns out I was wrong, it happens, I should have posted again to see if what I thought was correct, but hey im human I have a level of confidence with my understanding of things, and sometimes I think im right while im not, it happens to everyone. I make mistakes all the time and so do you, im trying to correct them, even if its not in the most efficient manner because of my ego.
 
Just use your head and you'll see it matches up pretty well with the English idiomatic expressions such as "sniff out" or "sniff around". Head first, dictionary last.
 
Then, you stopped translating, as always. Of course there's no problem with your attitude like this since it is you, not me, who don't want to know the correct meaning anymore.

It's a bit arcaic way of speech.
In modern Japanese, it's 私を2度使って、重い物を見極めて捧げなさい。
The statue must have a function as a scale, you have to find out which gem is the heaviest.
 
That's not wrong, but it just says "today and tomorrow" and doesn't contain "as well". I would say 今日このレストランでピザを食べます。明日もです / 明日もそうするつもりです(I am going to do so also tomorrow)。

未来 sounds awkward. I would say そのうち or いつか.
 
Could someone please explain me 「１から遠回り」 part in the following sentence. As far as I can understand when he tried to move from number 8 to 9, he started to rotate it backwards 8->7->6... Hovewer what is this １? The number or maybe 一から(from scratch, from the beggining)?

Sentence: "８"から"９"に番号を合わせるのに、ダイヤルを逆回転させて１から遠回りしている自分に無性に苛立った。
Context: The speaker tries to open the case by putting a correct number on the lock. He is in hurry and really nervous.
Btw: Number １ wasn't in quotes("") in the source.
 
The latter "from scratch / from the beginning" is correct.
 
So, if I'm understanding correctly, first he started to rotate it backwards 8->7->6->...->1 and then rotated it from the beggining, 1->2->3...->9?
 
He says he should rotate it forwards, just 8 --> 9, nevertheless he rotated it backwards 8 --> 7 --> 6,,,1 --> (0 -->) 9. 1 doesn't mean "number one".
 
I understand from your previous answer that 1 doesn't mean "number one". However, I still cannot understand what exactly author wants to say with "from scratch / from the beginning"? Maybe he "did it in a roundabout way from the beggining"?
 
Hey everyone. I need this from English translated to Japanese.

I honestly tried translating it myself but it sounds incorrect and laughable at best.
