I have come with yet another question:

さらに
姉妹が３人いて
全員美人なのだそうだ

Context is that a guy says this after describing a female classmate he admires ("she's pretty, smart, etc.").

I'm only a bit uncertain whether 姉妹が３人いて includes her or not.
"Furthermore there are 3 sisters (including her) and they're all beauties I hear."
or
"Furthermore she has 3 sisters (total of 4 sisters) and they're all beauties I hear."
 
The latter. She has three sisters(4 sisters including her). It's neither 姉が３人いて nor 妹が３人いて, thus, it usually means 'she has "one elder sister and two younger sisters" or "two elder sisters and one younger sister"'.

I just came across another short part I don't really get:

この匂い…
脳にクる…

Context: a guy thinks this after catching a waft of woman's perfume and he seems enraptured by it.

I'm not sure on what exactly 脳にクる. I'm guessing it means something along the lines of "It's reaching my brain/It's affecting my mind."
Is that about right? Or is it an idiom? I can't find a defintion/translation.

Yeah, "to affect" is a good translation. クる is 来る, and this is a slangy usage. (You've seen something like グッとくる before, maybe?)

「それなら」の「それ」が「相手の言っていること」を指している場合は当然そういう使い方もできます。というかそれが main use でしょう。
ただ今回の例では「それ」が直前の自説を指してるからそういう意味にはなり得ないんですけどね。（まさかそこが誤訳のそもそもの根本原因ってことはないですよね？）

Ah, so 脳にクる does not mean something like "to remember/keep in mind" like pauro12 suggested? Because that would make sense as well. Thanks again.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with グッとくる nor with the slangy usage of 来る in general.

Context is that a guy tells his long-time (male) friend that he wants to quit being a hero. The friend is surprised and says the above.

I'm guessing 融通が利かなくて doesn't literally mean 'unflexible', but rather something like 'unwavering' or 'stubborn.'
So my guess of a translation would be something like: "You've always had a strong sense of justice, been kindhearted, an idiot, stubborn and unwavering, I thought you were born to become a hero."

Is that about right?

Neither guesses nor speculation belong in this thread in the form of answers, even if clearly marked.
 
I would say 融通が利かない means 'inflexible', which isn't a lot different from 'unwavering', but 'unwavering' sounds nicer. I don't think this phrase sounds nice. You could use strait-laced or rigid if you prefer, but although the meaning is close to 'stubborn' it's not exactly stubborn, and 頑固 which is much closer to 'stubborn' appears as well.

The rest of it basically says 'folks as suited to be hero are rarely seen'.
The そうそう is this one ｢そうそう【然う然う】｣ を英語で表現すると - Yahoo!辞書
The 向く is II.1 here ｢むく【向く】｣ を英語で表現すると - Yahoo!辞書

Yea, I also thought 'unwavering' sounded more positive than 'inflexible'.
I was confused by all the other possible translations my dictionary gave, but そうそう as "so often" makes perfect sense.



I'm having trouble understanding something again.
After the guy mentions that he wants to quit being a hero, because his hero outfit looks too cute and embarrassing, an old man with a thick dialect chimes in (even the main character has trouble understanding him):

ヒーローは
まーまー
心強え者が
選ばれっとよ
(I'm actually somewhat sure on the gist of this one, but I'm posting it here anyway for context: "People with strong hearts are chosen as heroes.")

そん心ン強さ
だいでん手にでくっ
もんじゃなかよ
(My guess: "Such a strength of heart ____ ____ ")

おはんがそげな
むぞか姿になっとは
おはんの心に
わけがあっとよ
(My guess: "If your appearance becomes that cute, that means you have a heart." Is that about right?)

Sorry for asking so much at once, but it's all linked together, I think, at least in context.
Is っと a dialect form of って?
Google isn't much of a help, although it did help me figure out that むぞか seems to be Kyuushuu dialect for 可愛い.

The first two paragraphs make perfect sense.
However I still don't quite understand the last paragraph.
I think the old man is either talking about how a 'strong heart' is more important than looks, or that one's heart determines his appearance hero.

D'oh, now I get it! He's saying:
"Your heart is the reason why you (your appearance) becomes so cute."

The old man says this after being accused of having made a mistake:

せからしか！わしゃそげんこつせんと！

My guess: うるさい！わしはそんなこと(???)！

Is せんと = するか in standard Japanese?

Grammatically, that's しないよ in Standard Japanese, but yes, the nuance is more close to わしがそんなことするか（＝するわけがない） here.

遠慮しない usually means something like "not holding back"



Can someone help me with this one please?
What does this mean?

キングのうちに一度
一暴れしておこうかなと
思ってるわけよ。

Context: A crazy villainous guy calls himself a king and says this after talking about how he's been a king for too short a time and how the guy who will be the next king pissed him off the other day. By the way, a new king is chosen every year or so, apparently. Also, after saying this he says to a hero he met "I'll start with you!"

I don't get what he means at all by that. Is he thinking about "starting a riot among the kings for once"? Is the 2nd 一 a typo?
Something like "I should think about starting a riot in order to stay king for another year" would make sense here I think, but he doesn't actually say that, does he?
 
うち refers to term/period of time here, i.e., キングのうちに means "while I'm a King".
一暴れ is ひとあばれ. It's not a typo.
思ってるわけよ is almost the same as 思ってるんだよ.

Not much there for One Piece though, but since the manga closely follows the anime (filler episodes excepted), you might consider reading that.

No. He says つったっててもしょうがない. Look up つっ立つ..

SO MANY Japanese learners have difficulty in both hearing and producing the small っ sound. They rarely admit to it but they so clearly do.

It sounded very clear to me, and it also clearly sounded like Nami of One Piece to me. Perhaps I'm mistaken on one or both counts, but at the time I confidently thought I was hearing a clearly pronounced phrase from a familiar voice actress. If that's -not- it, then what is it, may I ask?

I think 暴れ could also refer to him getting violent.
