Need a word or phrase translated?

レストラン somewhat has a nuance of "western cuisine restaurant"(except loanwords like チャイニーズレストラン or "Chinese restaurant"), whereas 料理店 is often used with a specific word to show what type of cuisine the restaurant serves, especially when the word is written in kanji or Japanese origin words, and just 料理店 often refers to Japanese restaurants.
e.g.
韓国料理店[かんこくりょうりてん]: Korean restaurant
中華料理店[ちゅうかりょうりてん]: Chinese restaurant
ふぐ料理店: blowfish restaurant


BTW, the word you heard in "One Piece" would be 飯屋[meshiya].

Hello there,

I came across strange verbs endings (sorry, today my English is terrible...)
A friend told me that was "slang".
"Slang" isn't just for words like だめ あの べつに ?

If not, do you know some on line ressources like "urban dictionnary" for American language I can use for translating the ideas vehiculate by those verbs?

Generally, borrowed words tend to have narrower meaning than it did in its original language.
In French and English, restaurant simply means a place where you can buy and eat a meal.
In Japanese, レストラン usually refers to a place where western dishes are served.
And レストラン often has connotation of more expensive meal and sophisticated dishes.
(So "fast food restaurant" does not really exist in Japanese people's mind!)

General term for a place to buy and eat a meal is 食事（しょくじ）をするところ、食（た）べるところ、食（た）べ物（もの）屋（や）、食堂（しょくどう) and people use more specific words depending on the place.
e.g.
蕎麦屋（そばや） restaurant/diner where they serve mainly soba/buckwheat noodle
和食屋（わしょくや） Japanese restaurant
トルコ料理屋（トルコりょうりや） restaurants serving Turkish dishes
フランス料理屋（フランスりょうりや） French restaurant

One exception about レストラン is ファミリー・レストラン which refers to chain restaurant such as Denny's (American restaurant chain) where many different food are served at comparatively low prices.

I'm still in the office and cannot think of better examples, I hope you get some ideas about the words referring to "restaurants".

Well, usually, I take the verb original and translate it "normally".
But I'm missing something, I know it.

For example : 世話やけるよな

いてくれたらいいのにな

伝わったんじゃねの

and so on...
 
It's not slang but just colloquialisms. Most of them can be found in decent dictionaries/textbooks, if parsed correctly.

(The last one is a (young) male dialect. You might not be able to find this one in dictionaries.)

I just have to identify the original verb.

No. Sentence final particles are quite important in conversation, since the meaning/subject/object could be changed depending on it. (That's why many textbooks devote chapters to explain it.) So you need to learn it at some time.
 
Hey guys, can anyone tell me what おわらす means? I originally thought it was something to do with someone ending something but I know thats wrong, it doesn't show up in my dictionary or on Rikaichan either. Thanks.

Your interpretation is correct. That's the same to 終わらせる or the causative of 終わる.

Hey this is a good way to see how good online translators are , but I translate something like: Before I came I wanted to 妬Kanaku became normal. I'm rather anxious over occasionally. Lol

Hi Atr0, Thanks for the effort lol

I actually tried the tons of online translations already but they all spit out the same translation, which doesn't really make much sense to me. so i thought a native speaker could better translate it for me.

Thanks you for yoru effort though!!

Anyone else understand the sentence?
 
前みたく: 前みたいに(young people's dialect)
向こう: 相手(probably "he" in this case)

Where is the point you can't understand?

To be honest, I do not encourage youth to talk back to his/her parents in such a rude way in my own language even the parents may not understand what is said.

That's said, "get out" is
dete itte kudasai / detette kudasai (please get out)
dete itte! / detette! (strong imperative)
dete ike! / deteke ! (stronger i.e. very rude)

Think twice before saying something rude in Japanese, it does not make anyone happy.
