You can use うち.

世界最大（級）の都市のうち（の）2つ
日本で最も有名な人々のうち（の）3人

Hmmmm.....maybe that is more logical than 世界最大（級）の都市の2つ....

Although 最大 probably should correctly only refer to one of a set in absolute terms as the "biggest."

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm going to add 級(probably 規模 also can work here). In Japanese, 世界最大の都市 generally refers to only one city, not cities.
 
Hi everybody. I'm not really trying to learn Japanse, I would never ever be able to. I admire people that can learn.

I'm just a standard office worker, nothing special, just doing my job... and out of nowhere, my (female) (I'm male) co-worker passes me this note with Japanese characters. I think she hates my guts or something (office drama *yawn* ), but I can't find the kanji characters on Wikipedia because it written by hand and not keyboard-entered.

I hope anybody here can help me out here...

Well, if she's a cutey why not flirt back?

Otherwise, if it were me, since my japanese isn't any better than a first grader at best, I'd probably respond with a Japanese proverb that I found on wikiquotes. Maybe something like,

馬鹿は死ななきゃ治らない。

* Baka wa shinanakya naoranai.
* Literally: Unless an idiot dies, he won't be cured.
* Meaning: Only death will cure a fool. / You can't fix stupid.

And then maybe she will find it funny, and you two can be friends.
 
Just need some help/checking with this sentence:

I've tried "He is attached to all treasures which exist in world, and if it's for greed, then he will, by any means, kill people for the sake of a piece of treasure, in addition he has a avaricious and brutal personality. "

what's the general Japanese sentence for " you're welcome " & " don't mention it " in reply to someone's " thank you " ?

can we use どういたしまして for both genders ?

どうたらこうたら is the same as どうのこうの or ああだこうだ, あれこれ, which can be translated as "this and that" or "so and so" often with negative connotation, used to list up complaints, for instance.
 

I see... But what about どうたら by itself? Is it the same is どう? For example, how should "Twitterの読み方がどうたら" be translated?

Same as どうたらこうたら. Probably the speaker would say complaint against the one who said something to him/her about the pronunciation of "Twitter."

In this case, I think, the most appropriate translation of どうたら would be "something about ～".

Example

A 「Nero からメールが来たよ。」 I've got a mail from Nero.
B 「なんだって？」 What did it/he say?
A 「Twitterの読み方がどうたら...」 Something about how to read Twitter...
 
I'm playing a Japanese import game on my PSP, a demo version of it. It is very strange, and appears to have a female maid as one of the characters. I don't watch anime, its very cartoony so I'm not sure if its off anime. It is called 'infinite loop.'. It's all in Japanese and has voice to go with the text...great for practice. Here's the picture of the name of the game in Japanese, maybe someone can translate it:

I'm assuming deshou just means, 'don't you agree'? or expresses a level of certainity.

It's the title of the book.

The reason Chinese and Koreans hate Japanese

東アジア共異体」構想とは。
This one is a bit difficult, and in fact the author made up this word, so the best way to find out what it means is to read the book. However, here's the short version:
共異体 is a play on the word 共同体, which means community. The author argues for an East Asian block somewhat similar to the E.U. (which is ironic given the title of his book, no?), but he thinks that using the term 共同体 would be very bad because of the kanji 同, which means "the same". Instead, he prefers to replace that kanji with 異, which means "to differ", so that all countries in the organization can respect each others' differences.

So, 東アジア共異体」構想とは。 might mean, "What the concept of 'East Asian differunity' is"
 
皆さん、こんにちは！

Hi, so I received a lette from my Japanese penpal in the mail today. With the letter there were other things, such as this map thing that came with a map of Japan as well as like a Tokyo metro survival guide type thing.

Anyways, there are two sentence that use the word ｢後｣. I know that can mean like "later", "the rest", "blah more blah", or something like that. In these sentences I'm no sure what it's being used as, or why it's there.

Here's the sentence:

「あ、あと１００円ショップというお店で日本の地図を見つけて見ているだけでもおもしろいかなと思って買ってみたからそれも送るね。あと電車の路線図、英語と日本語のものを駅で見つけたんだ。」

Here's what I'm guessin gthe translation would be:
"Oh, I found a map of Japan at a store called "Only 100 yen shop", and after looking through it a bit (or somethign with that kind of feel..?), I thought it was kind of interesting. I bought it so I sent that too. Oh yeah, after that I found a train map route at the train station that's in English and Japanese."

I totally guessed on the translations of あと in these sentences. Perhaps the firt one if just a store name and doesn't really hve a translation... Oh also, in the first sentence, I couldn't find an english meaning or whatever for "けどでも". What dos that mean/do to te sentence? That's why I was really sure about the meaning of the middle of the sentence... Hopefully I have a general jist of the sentences' meanings. If I wrote anythign that's completely off please crrect it for me!

p.s. I was reading mor of the letter and finished reding it, and there was one word I also couldn't find the meanign of: ここらへん
What's that mean?
