"○○ --> ××" is the common expression for a correction especially to a typo between "じ/ぢ", "ず/づ", or a misuse of kanji. (Actually, I often use this.)

The writer must had written まかは in his/her previous post. I have no idea of the meaning of the word without the context.

my comp has super little memory and It has a problem every few days that makes me have to do a destructive restore and I haven't been doing Japanese recently so I didn't instal the IME again, but the letter was in romaji.

Is a book dictionary alot better than an online one?

Jim Breen's dict. pretty much serve my needs although I didnt use it to translate your letter...I just needed to decipher the romaji lol.

Hi hows everyone doing? I am new to these forums. One of my learning methods is Rosetta Stone. Although it is really quick and good way to learn sometimes it leaves me totally clueless to what some of these phrases mean. These two in particular that I am having trouble with at the moment:

NAGAI KIMPATSU O SHITE IRU NOWA DARE DESU KA?

KONO WAKAI ONNANOHITO WA KAARU GA KAKATTA KAMINOKE O SHITE IMASU

If anyone can translate them into English for me I would really appreciate it. I think the first one is dealing with hair length and the other with hair color but I am not sure.

P.S. I cannot read Japanese yet(not the way you guys do ) so please I just need the English only answer.

1.MEGANE O KAKETE INAI SE NO TAKAI OTOKONOKO WA DARE DESU KA?

I am pretty stumped totally here with everything up to otokonoko. If anyone can word for word translate it I'd really appreciate it.

2.ONNANOKO WA DENWA O TSUKATTE IMASEN.

Again here I am totally stumped with DENWA O TSUKATTE.

3.KODOMO WA KOPPU O KUCHI NI ATETE IMASU

Not too sure about everything from KOPPU to ATETE.

Onnanoko - Girls (as in children)
denwa - phone
Tsukatteimasen - not using

Onnanoko wa denwa wo tsukatteimasen.
The girl is not using the phone.

Kodomo - children
Koppu - a drink tumbler for toddlers
kuchi - mouth
ateteimasu - to place, to apply

Kodomo wa koppu wo kuchi ni ateteimasu
The Children are putting tumblers in their mouths

Not sure whats exactly trying to be said in your last sentence....Megane wo kaketeinai means "not wearing glasses"...so...

Megane wo kaketeinai se no takai otokonoko dare desu ka
Which boy is not wearing expensive glasses?

This is only a bit of a guess on my part sorry.

1. Megane wo kaketeinai (not wearing glasses)
se no takai (tall)
otokonoko wa (boy) wa is the topic marker it shows the sentence's topic
dare desu ka (Who is he/she)
So: Who is the tall boy without the glasses?

Also be careful, in your third example the child is holding the cup to his/her mouth (ie: drinking) not putting the cup in his/her mouth.

That's correct. INAI is the negative form of IRU (to be, to exist etc.) IRU is also used as you saw above, in combination with another verb to indicate the present progressive / continuous tense. The polite forms are IMASU and IMASEN (neg).

S/He is wearing glasses. MEGANE WO KAKETEIMASU (polite)
S/He is wearing glasses. MEGANE WO KAKETEIRU (plain)
S/He is NOT wearing glasses. MEGANE WO KAKETEIMASEN (polite)
S/He is NOT wearing glasses. MEGANE WO KAKETEINAI (plain)

Thanks for all your help throughout the day. I don't want it to seem like I am taking advatnage of people or anything or get annoying by me but I need help with a few more questions. I have Rosetta Stone which does not include English translations. It's a quick method but you really do need English translations for some of these pictures.

what does TO ISSHO mean in this sentence?

2.KASA YORIMO HITO NO HOO GA TAKUSAN IMASU

3.BOO O MOTTE INAI OTOKONOKO

5.OTOKONOHITO WA TE DE ATAMA O SASAETE IMASU

this one i've got no idea what to make of it.....something about man and hand :??

#1"◎to issho" mean together with ◎, so: "The cowboy who is NOT together with his horse.
#2 There are more people than umbrellas.
#3 The boy who isn't carrying a stick...
#4 Five is between one and zero.
#5 The man is holding his head up with his hand.
#6 The man has one hand on his face and the other hand on his knee.

Those are the basics.

I've never seen Rosetta Stone, does it just give you pictures and then describe them to you in Japanese or something like that?

Yeah pretty much. You'll have a picture of a dog and a man or something and then they will give you works in Japanese and you will build your vocabulary. Like first you get a pic of a man "OTOKONOHITO", then a dog "INU" then them together and a slide that says OTOKONOHITO TO INU. It's good for vocab but the verbs can be really hard. And if the sentence is complex it can get really hard because you may not know what they're referring to.

I am not very good at japanese, and im probably at a lower "level" than you, but i thought id give it a shot.

食べてからおもしろい映画をみました。 or 食べてから映画を「は」みました。おもしろい「です」。

Putting movie in the second sentence seems to repetitive for Japanese to me.

After eating, saw an interesting movie. / After eating, saw a movie. Was interesting.

あれから、日本語宿題をして、ドラマをみて、ブログを書きました。

I think you meant kakimashita and I remember reading that "sore" could also refer to an event in the future, where "are" can only refer to a past moment.
Im not sure if its necessary but i thought id mention it.

#2 YORIMO is "more than/ to a greater degree than" NO HOU GA isolates one thing when comparing and TAKUSAN means "many / a lot"

#5 SASAETE is the TE-form (many uses, google Tae-Kim's Japanese Grammar for a good guide) of SASAERU meaning "to hold up/ to support"

#6 KATATE is actually two parts KATA "one of a pair" and TE "hand" so it means "one hand (of a possible two)", NOSETTE is again the TE form of the verb NOSERU "to put something on top of another thing" and ATETE is the TE form of ATERU "to touch/put something to something else".

Yeah i was using Rosetta stone for a while too but i didnt get far.

Like becki-san said, You should probably learn about the -te form since its in alot of those sentences. Tae kims guide is very good but i think it would be hard to jump in right in the middle. I recommend reading the whole guide. It would definitely clear up alot of your questions. And in case you didnt know"-te form" is a conjugation of a verb that ends in te/sometimes de.

You can also use 後で（あとで）to express "Afterwards" or "After that"

I dont know but tabete kara sounds strange to me.

後で映画を見ました。おもしろかった。
After that I/we watched a movie. It was really interesting.

それ in this sentence refers 晩ごはんをたべたこと. The events like "宿題をする", "ドラマを見る", "ブログを書く" were done after "晩ごはん", so "それから; after that" can use here.

Indeed (ご飯を)食べたあとで/そのあとで映画を見ました sounds more natural, but (ご飯を)食べてから映画をみました is also common as a colloquial expression.;-)
