Need a word or phrase translated?

I'm sorry, but...even though my experience reading authentic writing is far more limited than the native speakers here I can tell you right away that that is most likely not legible. What's more, it appears to be written in cursive (gyousho).
 
What is it written on?
I tried blowing it up with some graphic programs, but it is far too pixelated.

And when you ask for it to be "translated", you mean you want to know whose name it is, correct?

Yes, if it is a name then I need to know who's name it is. Please don't give up guys, thank you all for taking the time to try and figure out what it says for me, I really appreciate it even though it may be very difficult.

But this is just so standard. In reality you don't want to sound generic about your own demise. As always, everything depends on the gender of the speaker and relationship to the listener. deshoukane...

So "いちばよ、ちおせよ！" probably means 「越後屋を誅せよ(えちごやをちゅうせよ)」, but I've no idea what part is いいくせよ...

OK, ok. So, usually when people start learning a language, you usually learn the curses, right? Haha. Well, I didn't do that. And I was just wondering from watching this movie in Japanese, that apparently in the subtitles, there were a lot of curses. So, how do you curse in Japanese?

All I know is くそ

I know not to use curses, but i just would like to know a few. like, "popular" ones I guess you could say.

There aren't too many curse words that I know of in Japanese. ちくしょう （畜生）is another. It was originally a Buddhist word that means something like "beasts." If you were reincarnated as an animal it was viewed as a demotion. ばか（馬鹿） of course means stupid. I don't know why it is written with the two kanji meaning horse and deer. I have yet to find something written about that. ばかやろう （馬鹿野郎） means a$$hole or other similar things... やろう literally means 'field man.' It's like country bumpkin. You can also just use it on it's own. このやろう. It also means male prostitute. That's really all I know.

I asked my Japanese friend, and he tried to give as many as he could, and i looked some up, and i was wondering if any of them were correct, or close to the meaning or expression you're trying to get across:

baka = stupid
bakayarou = idiot
kutabare = **** you; go to hell
fuzakenna = son of a b*tch; a$$hole
kuso = sh*t; damn; ****
kuso... = f*cking.../damn...
kusokurae = **** off
kusobabaa = b*tch (to a female)
kusojijii = b*tch (to a male)
unchi = sh*t/poop [hahha xD]

Are any/all of them alright? And is there anymore I could know?

p.s. I know not to use these, I just would like to know them. and sorry for the foul language. but... yeah xD :emoji_blush:
 
Yeah, I know unchi and kusobabaa. Kuso'oyaji is another. It's a disparaging way of referring to old men, similar to kusojijii.

I also know 'zakken'nayo,' which means f**k off but I am really not sure if that is actually used. So I think it is best to ignore me in this case. You'd be better off asking a native speaker how often these curse words are used or whether they are used at all.

Nice list! this reminds me of the time when I was in one of the Mitsukoshis (Japanese department store) Taipei with my cousins, and I taught them "unchi." Well, this Japanese dude (he was speaking Japanese in his phone) happened to be passing by, and gave us all a dirty look. :emoji_flushed:

I don't know how much context I need, so I will err on the side of plenty. What is the difference here between the two punctuated phrases?
私は言う、「そして僕は彼女に恋をしている」
「Xさんに？」
「そう。多分そうだと思う」
「たぶん？」と大島さんは言って眉をしかめる。「それはたぶんXさんに恋をしている、ということ？それともXさんにたぶん恋をしていると言うこと？」
In the Japanese text, the dots appear above the letters instead of hte underline, but I am struggling to duplicate that here so I used underlines instead.
Although I think understand what the author is getting at here in a general sense--i.e., the main character is being asked what he is unsure about, whether it is love or whether it is love for Xさん(sorry, don't know how to type the kanji, but the the main woman in 海辺のカフカ）--I am struggling to pinpoint the exact meaning of the two phrases and how they would translate into English. Help please!


Why is the narimasu here in the present tense but the others in the teimasu tense? The voice in my head would probably cause me to say narimashita, although both from my own reading, and from a respect for your level of Japanese, I am certain that my own inclination here is wrong.

First たぶん is for Ｘさん (not someone else), the second one is for 恋をしている (have a certain feeling towards X san, most likely "love").
My attempt:
"Perhaps?" said Oshima san, frowned.
"Do you mean you are in love probably with X san, or you are probably in love with X san?"
 
To Barkley: It's not in past tense, at least this is what I was taught, because it is more a meaning of 'it is,' rather than 'it has been.' I mean, even in English you can see 'it is become.' Believe it or not that is NOT grammatically incorrect.
