I'm studying in university in Canada, and I need to send an email to a Japanese professor. But I have never met him/her and so I have no idea if it's a he or a she just by looking at the name: Maruoka,Akiko

can anyone tell me if it's a guy or a woman???

P.S. I am guessing Akiko is a family name? and Maruoka is first name?

Akiko is a female name and Maruoka is her family name.
(That's why she put "," after her family name, I guess.)
