I feel in a thread makin mood tonite for some reason. Well right now I'm wondering what kind of you music you guys like? Artits? Songs? Albums? Genres?

I must say that i have a wide range, from soul/rnb to trance sometimes pop, jazz of course, instrumental and what not, anything that sounds good. So basically from the latest Mariah Carey oh so sweet new album to Armin van Buuren, and even some anime soundtracks
Lately I discovered a very good soul artist, Leela James, great stuff but I can't find her album here ;;;;; also I have gotten more into soft relaxing trance, the type with smooth beats along with soft vocals not that weird psy trance thing that makes you feel like you are on extasy. Anyways, your turn

Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Mozart, DeBusey, Vaughan-Williams, George Butterworth, Parry, Rodrigo, Walton, Copeland.

Jazz:

Holley Cole, Diana Krall, Stan Getz, Jimmy Smith, Lionel Hampton, Miles Davis

Blues:

All of 'em !

Rock/Pop/Folk (Sorry - I'm a geezer!)

The Stones, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Buddy Holley, Enya, The Pogues, (Sir) Elton John, Leonard Cohen, The Dubliners .... and ... Jethro Tull!

I like:
Blues:
The old-style stuff, things with good guitar fingerpicking, traditional but I'm not keen on heaviest Delta blues. Then also going towards blues/rock. Artists I can think of off the top of my head? John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell, Woody Guthrie... (I have a really bad memory who wrote stuff, ouch, I grew up with it as part of my childhood and didn't pay enough attention :sorry: )
Folk:
Anything with good guitar playing again! Ralph McTelll, when he doesn't ramble too much (sorry Ralph!). Cat Stevens (is that folk? I'm not sure!)
Rock:
Old-style, stuff like Deep Purple and... y'know, the usual suspects... sometimes more arty stuff - Steve Vai ( ), more metal stuff, umm, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Wolfsbane... j-rock (no surprise there, then) including Kra, Dir en Grey, Gazette, 12012... and others...
Psycho le Cemu:
I couldn't think of a category for them, so I put them by themselves! Hmm... kind of... rock/pop/dance. Bouncy!
Tamer rock:
Franz Ferdinand. Nuff said!
Classical:
For playing on the piano. Errr... I'm on the third piece out of my book of 85 classical pieces, so my knowledge is not the best! It should be, though - I played the flute through all the grades - I just forget everything... again, I can remember music but not who wrote it... (duuuh!). I like stuff in a minor key...
Trance:
for dancing to. Nuff said (again!)

But really, I'll listen to anything. I love music - I pine when I'm deprived of it! I really prefer playing to listening... only because when I listen I get impatient to try things out! I play guitar (electric and acoustic), keyboard, and I sing (had lessons for 2 years but alas, no more )

Hip Hop (mainly unusual stuff) -

I've not really got a wide taste as other people. I like classical, mainly baroque, and Russian composers. I am also a big opera fan and try to see one at least once a year. I would love to see Wagners Ring Cycle, but my Favourite is La Boheme.
I also like Blues, but old style blues as I find some of the modern stuff can leave me a bit cold. Big fan of Jean michel Jarre and ZZ Top. As fo any other type I just buy what I like the sound of, which means I don't have a lot of modern music as I find it bland and repetative.

Part of the reason why I opened this thread was also to discuss artists who are not so well known but have immense talent. That's so weird, at times I find that some very unique and talented artists are not quite that popular as opposed to some random mediocre ones who are in the pop charts. Is it coz our society is too much into conformity and really doesn't allow for much uniqueness or individuality ?

Anyways, I'm gona recommend Calvin Richardson and Van Hunt to you out there as 2 good soul/rnb artists with some very unique styles. They are known but not as much, so maybe you can chek them out on the web

It's the same for me, I enjoy other types of music, but when I hear a really good rnb song it gives a feeling like no other

Like I said, these to guys are fairly known, at least amongst listeners of the exquisite stuff

of course I shouldn't be suprised when a good connoisseur of music such as yourself indulges into quality stuff. I'd like to take a deeper look into your music collection, I'm sure we could find more common ground

My favorite right now is rock.

Matt Bellamy in Muse has the most beautiful voice as a male singer. I love how his music sounds like it has a force and pulls you back.
I can listen to them over and over.

The pixies are my second favorite band, lyrics of their songs are so poetic.

I chose instrumental... but I really like the Korean singer T, she has such a beautiful voice... she is rather talented. I guess she would come under Hip hop, which is a shame, because she really does deserve a better genre, but its more to do with the background music rather than her lyrics.
I do like everything, if I go out I like to go to Hip Hop bars (Korean ones are great, if they play new music) or Dance venues... but when at home I prefer softer peaceful music.
Ooh ooh and I love the Carpenters and Air Supply, Eurythmics all the old stuff my mum used to do the housework to!

My favorite style is trance ^_^. But I listen to nearly everything, but I'm sorry to say I can't stand rap, hip-hop, and country. Johann Pachelbel - Canon in D is an absolutely beautiful song as well (I love George Winston's version). On the rock side of things, I love Third Eye Blind, Oasis, U2, Coldplay, Barenaked Ladies, and O.A.R. I also listen to my share of movie soundtracks (Gladiator, Pirates), but I don't think you can classify that as truly classical music. I also listen to my J/C/Kpop and Rock . Spitz is awesome! (Along with so many more ).

Well, let's see! I enjoy pop and rock music from the 50's into the 80's along with Disco (Yeah, I like Disco! Wanna make something of it? Didn't think so!) and J-pop.

ABBA, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Foreigner, Blondie, Cheap Trick, Van Halen (before Sammy Hagar), old school Motown, Pink Lady (see avatar to left), Shonen Knife, PuffyAmiYumi, KC & The Sunshine Band, Village People, Billy Joel, U2, etc., and that's just what I thought off the top of my mind!

Country? It's okay, but it doesn't get my heart pumping. Grunge? Urgh! Forget it. Hip-hop and gangsta rap? DESPISE IT!!! But that's just me!
