As for me, I think Sannenzaka is the most beautiful Japanese Location.
I'm very much a nature person who loves everything foresty and green, so for me it'll have to be the many mossy forests Japan has to offer. One place in particular I would love to visit is the Shiratani Unsuikyoo on the island of Yakushima in Kagoshima. Apparently, there's a part of it that inspired the Ghibli film Mononoke Hime - which is easy to understand given the otherworldly feeling of the place.

My friend and his wife were both very disappointed by the sheer volume of people they came across going to and fro and cut their stay short by a few days. They are both city people, though, so it might have been all the nature they encountered that scared them away

I urgently needed to make an international call (family death) and the owner of the hotel, in her oh so refined way, made it absolutely clear to me that there was no way I could make such a short call from a hotel, despite my Japanese wife trying to negotiate on my behalf. That rather put me off Kyoto - irrational, I know.

I'm so sorry for your bad experience, especially during that of a family death. Nobody in my family has died yet, so i can only imagine how hard that must be. My deepest condolences.

A spectacular display of autumn foliage, decorated with 10,000 maple trees at Momiji Lake (Minowa Dam)
This is a video of autumn leaves taken at Minowa Dam (Momiji Lake) in Minowa Town, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture , on November 7th and 9th, 2021.
Minowa Dam was completed in 1992. Approximately 10,000 maple trees were planted over about ten years by the people of the villages submerged by the dam's construction so that the dam would be loved by people in the future. Every year, from late October to early November, the entire area around the dam is red, orange, and yellow, and you can enjoy the magnificent view of autumn leaves.
Until a few years ago, it was a hidden spot for autumn leaves, and you could enjoy taking pictures at your leisure on weekdays. However, recently, it has become a hot topic on social media such as Instagram and Twitter, and restrictions on private cars have been put in place since this year.
It is no longer a spot where you can quickly see autumn leaves as before, but it is still a spectacular spot for autumn leaves that you should visit at least once.
This weekend will probably be the peak of the autumn leaves this year. However, the rate at which the leaves change colour varies from tree to tree, and one of the attractions of Lake Momiji is the colourful carpet of maple leaves after the peak of autumn colours, so I think you'll be able to enjoy the autumn leaves until around mid-November.

The flower of the red side that is in full glory as having spread a pink carpet all over the village of the red side of Minowa-machi, Kamiina-gun, Nagano, the very large field is sure to get instagenic and is a word of the impression. I produced this work using the stock picture including the unscreened picture which I photographed on September 22, 2014.
It turns red, and, as of Monday, September 23, it is thought that I will thicken a color remarkably in future.
The village Festival of the red side is held until from Saturday, September 21 to Sunday, October 13.

[Shinshu Togakushi] Colored leaves of the legend of a mirror-pond
The historical Togakushi Shinto shrine is located in the northwestern part of Nagano. The legend of a mirror pond in the neighborhood is a superb spot to view the Togakushi mountain range.
Autumn is a season of the love of the deer. The cry of the buck takes on sorrow. The buck cries in a loud, high-pitched voice with Beep and asserts myself. Autumn feels sad when it calls in the distance. I hear a cry of sika in the legend of a mirror-pond from many places on the mountain. I show the beautiful autumn scenery with maple, the beech which changed colour.
The coloured leaves of Togakushi vary from green to gold for nearly one month. A beech, the Quercus crispula, colors the forest into gold. The crimson rowan and maple which hark back to a jewel. Ooyamazakura, which performs the flavour of a change deeply. A legendary mirror-pond to project the Mount Togakushi mountain range such as the color woodblock print on. I compare the late fall to the sparkle in Kogane with the coloured leaves. The Golden Age said that it is the most beautiful. The surface of a lake projects the Togakushi mountain range like a mirror in the tranquillity upside down early in the morning. It is the wonderful beauty of the coloured leaves that a mountain burns in autumn. The brightness of the last moments of life before it snows and a leaf falls. A deer and coloured leaves, a mystery of the repeated life. I moved it in a fantastic early morning and damaged it.
A little-known spot spot of Togakushi is a small bird pond. The Togakushi mountain range projects like a mirror. The lakeside-coloured leaves are as good as a legend of a mirror pond. And the best charm does not have anyone.
Mount Akagi, a famous peak in Gunma Prefecture
I photographed coloured leaves of the beautiful mountain Mount Akagi of Gunma. There is Konuma of the crater lake in the neighbourhood of Mount Akagi mountaintop more Onuma, Kakumambuchi Marsh of the caldera lake, and those wetlands patronize the beauty of coloured leaves of Mount Akagi more.
The peak of coloured leaves went too far, but similarly, I aimed at a sea of clouds to expect from the Torii Pass, which was near the Mount Akagi mountaintop and left for Mount Akagi before sunrise.
Unfortunately, I was not able to see a sea of clouds, but I was able to photograph beautiful leaves in a beautiful colour. Above all, the beauty of early-morning Konuma was unique. The legend of a mirror-pond shrub, which changed colour, looked colourful to the trees, which had already shed leaves and were crowded and filled with morning fog, and the mysterious scene was beautiful to drink breath.
As the scenic spot of Gunma and Nagano was the distance that was within a day trip of Tokyo, I went out for touring on a motorcycle well.
I climbed Mt. Fuji about 20 years ago. We took a bus to possibly the 5th station and started our ascent from there. We started in the evening, slept shortly at one of the lodges, where you basically paid to sleep sandwiched between two other people on the floor. Woke up very early and finished the climb in time to see the sun rise from the summit. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
People asked me if it was hard climbing that high where the oxygen was thinner. I responded that I have asthma. Thin air is my daily life. LOL
Regarding the train, I don't support...
I cycled up to the fifth station several times but never climbed the summit.

Also, could it be worth a try to remind the tree slayers who want to cut old trees for the jingu gaien project that cutting down a tree inhabited by a kodama will call down a curse on and bring misfortune to you? And that old trees are far more likely to be kodama? Anyone with government connections who can casually pass a note to someone?
There is the sacred tree which the tree is said to when I die when I touch it.
初鹿野諏訪神社 御神木 (Hajika no suwa jinsha oshinboku) Hajikano Suwa Shrine Sacred Tree
It is a Shinto shrine right by JR Chuo Line, Kai-Yamato Station. The main hall is prefecture-designated cultural assets, and many sculptures carved with by people have the value of seeing. There is Magnolia obovata of the sacred tree behind this main hall. According to the tradition, it is said that the stick which I used in the occasion when Yamato Takeru visited this ground grew up with a huge tree.
However, the following words follow the sign of the Board of Education in here. As "it is believed that the case of the deplorable affair happens when I neglect this sacred tree from ancient times, it prevents you from defying divine will". In other words, I accept the existence of the curse publicly.
After it entered in postwar period that "the case of the deplorable affair" happened. Six workers paid a branch that a branch touched the overhead wire of Chuo Main Line via the back of this Shinto shrine in 1953 (Showa 28). These five of six people die in an accident afterwards. It is said that staying one person had a serious injury in another accident.
And a plan to remove a sacred tree for track expansion in 1968 (Showa 43) happened. A truck and the head-on collision that the bath of the school excursion with the student of Yamato Junior High School (the diagonal junior high school which is located to go across this Suwa-jinja Shrine and track) is Route 20 Nirasaki bypass, and the unlicensed boy runs on the early morning of June 15 just after that. A tragic incident that three students, teacher two, six people of one driver in total died happened.
I take the minimum measures that the person concerned with train service evades that I touch this sacred tree after this and protects so that the branch which lengthened does not hit an overhead wire. I establish the large-scale metal wall in the point that this sacred tree touches a track with and am dealing now so that an overhead wire and a vehicle do not touch it.
