After reading that Japan seems a whole lot less friendly, uhhhh leaving it all up to chance is scary........50% chance its gonna be the worst experience ever or 50% chance its gonna be the best.......and the only way to find out is to go.And coming from a country that doesn't have large numbers there is also kinda scary as I noted in the videos posted in the past how the Indonesian students stuck together like a herd while others wondered around alone aimlessly......gonna be tough hopefully we all go from this forum so we can help each other out! :?

Nope, I haven't applied before, this is my first and last time to do so. I just spent my nights surfing the web about the scholarship and all.

We all are like that in truth, ive been laughed at by judges because I jumped like I got a fright and looked like a deer caught in a cars headlights when my name was called out for a speech and I have a nervous speed talk and stammer that in the end sounds like i'm rapping, though we always believe its worse than it is but it always turns out good in the end.
 

Yeah, I came across that site when I was having my doubts on going to Japan. I really don't want to be in that girl's shoes, because I can't afford to quit halfway.

Yeah I also cant come home empty handed, but the girl also seemed to have a bad attitude sometimes and had a large unrealistic sunny rainbows expectation of Japan.You're not rude as far as I can tell and don't have an ego or unrealistic view as you dug up the side of the scholarship no one knew about.It is a chance but its a worthy one as you now know what to expect and how not to handle it unlike she did.Though the racist part is still a problem when you get put in the small ignorant areas its even like that here.
 
Though its not just her many others are having problems so it cant be her bad attitude or her reactions......anyone else been reading it?
 
Yeah, i dont expect Japan to be seeing anime everywhere and everyone reading manga and everything. From what I hear though the majority of people are extremely nice since i rarely hear any bad stories about them. We all love japan obviously but Japan has its problems like every other country. I dont know of a country where there arent people with racism in some parts. As for her friends calling her gaijin, is that really so much of a problem? I mean, we are foreigners after all. Like to me its just a nickname but thats just me. If it offends her then she should say something. What do you guys think?
 

The racism part bothered me a little even more so because I'm an African although I'm light skinned, but I did a lot of research on how blacks are received in Japan and came to a conclusion that it depends on the person and the situation you put yourself in.

Although, I've never been bullied mainly because I tend to make sure I avoid them. :?

I wonder why I should get mad for being called a gaijin. Aren't I always been one since I came to their country?

so you guys got any tips for the scholarship?
Tips for application procedure/exams/interviews/mindlessly waiting? lol

I already filled out my application. My 3 majors are japanese, literature, and pedagogy(but i only chose pedagogy to fill up the applicaiton xD)
I only need to get a passport, photos, and medical check up. Time is running out in my country. The deadline is July 1st and so theres only about 7 weeks left to send it in! At least after that i can calm down cause step 1 is completed. Next is step 2, study like a maniac for the exams and build confidence for interviews lol
 
Do some research on interviews, I went and got a pretty descent book that helps you to create your self introduction and how to behave during the interview(most sites have the same), as for the exams, cram,study,cram.You still haven't sent your documents remember if posting it still takes time to reach destination( South African post sucks, put tracker on mine in case it gets stolen even)
 
July 1st? At least you've gotten something done and still have plenty of time for the rest..I've got 'til May 31st and I still haven't gotten through the application.. ^^;

I understand if no one wants to,but would any of you be willing to share a reason or two that you've given as to why you've chosen your fields of study?

Btw,if you guys could choose where to spend the first year,would you choose Tokyo or Osaka? ^^

Thats what ill do, cause i feel like my self introduction is super awkward. so are you guys still in high school?
I am. Im supposed to graduate in May of next year normally, but instead im graduating in December this year so i can make the departure date for the scholarship.

Well, on the application it says to write your name EXACTLY as printed on your passport. And passports i think always have your name written in all caps so i just want to make sure. I could write it without getting a passport though in all caps..but... idk... advice?

Hmm, i think just try to sound motivated through your writing. you know, use colorful words and make it sound professional.
As for my first year, i choose Tokyooooooo im more familiar with it haha
 
Osaka for me, its much cheaper to "survive" there.I only chose Biology and no other things and i generally said its my passion bla bla bla.....now that i think about it its kinda boring and cliche.

I got a mock application that shows how to fill it in if you need it but you seem to understand.
 
Do you want the mock application to check the capital letter and romanized capitals just in case?
