Monbukagakusho Scholarship

I've been doing some research on it but haven't really found much. Either it's me, or there isn't really that much information on it. I hope to be an undergraduate student studying in Japan. I hope to go when I graduate high school, I just turned 15 (today go-figure).

1) What are the language requirements?
Are there language classes given? Do you have to pass a certain language test to get it?
2) How is the application filled out? Is anyone recommended to help you with the process?
3) How long does it take to fill it out?
4) How hard is it to attain the scholarship?

Any help is gladly appreciated. My high school counselor is trying to help me attain it, and she knows as much about it as I do.

I think maybe you should do some more searching. And contact either a prospective university or your nearest embassy (maybe LA or SF for you). Not trying to be unhelpful -- I just think it would benefit you to search more. All of us who got the scholarship at least figured out how to fill out the application before asking questions

I mostly only know about the postgrad scholarship, not the undergrad one. However, I know how difficult it can be to find information just by googling... the official pages about the MEXT scholarships are here:

I guess you may already have looked at these though. What you can do is look at the page of the embassy in your country of citizenship. For example, here is the page for the US embassy:

You can see the documents and requirements from last year on this page. However, it is best to look at your own embassy's website nearer the time because procedures may differ between countries.

Since Japanese universities do not usually hold undergraduate courses in English, you will probably need to be able to understand Japanese extremely well.

MEXT Scholarship for Undergraduate Study

The following information is intended as a synopsis of scholarship information. Applicants are responsible for reading the 2016 MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship Application Guidelines provided below.

Level of Studies

Undergraduate Student Scholarships are for high school graduates who wish to study at a Japanese university. One year Japanese language program at a Japanese language school prior to attending a Japanese university as an undergraduate student is included.

Duration of Scholarship Program

Five (5) years including one (1) year of Japanese-language training

Field(s) of Study

Undergraduate degree in any available field of study at a college or university in Japan

I had edited my post but the 15 mins had passed. I wanted to thank, Mad Physicist, who had posted the link above me I used and saw that information on.
The rest of the Ino on requirements there were for Virginia and District of Columbia I believe. So they can be different per state even.
I have been studying Japanese this last year and will say if you are serious about taking College courses in Japan, you should start now with learning Japanese. If it is not offered as a course for your 2 year foreign language required study for your High School Degree, there are tons of online resources some even free. For pronunciation I would say to use the websites I have seen that will match you with a person who Native language is Japanese and they are interested in learning your's English. Japanese is a very intricate language to learn, it will take time an patience. I would say the 3 years you have left would help you for the 1 year thst would come with it. I also feel it would help you qualify. I have read there are so.many levels of the language as far as the level in the hierarchy the person is thst you speak thst some are not even known by most of the Japanese people now. I do know how speak to your boss and people over you is very important. ompous:Also respecting their status in life even. You may be their over the person at work but they are over you in life. So the Sempi honorific can be confusing. I would say always best to honor the age of a person, and what they have gathered in knowledge through time over when you started working say a company. I am sure when it comes to big bosses that changes.:cigar: I am totally rambling. I would say though if your seriously considering this you need to work on finding some of this out on your own. Possibly try to work in a home stay there. You don't usually get your credits counted but depends on the program. I have seen some people graduate early just to go there. You have to remember they graduate at bit later I believe in Fall or Winter. I have seen some of the kids earn real credits while there. I mean this is a big decision and you would never want to take the slot away from someone else if.you did get it and then totally hated it. :arghh: I wonder if they take 36 year olds, lol.:hilarious:

I've been learning Japanese for a year now. I pretty much know all the stuff you mentioned, I just have to work on my grammar and gaining vocabulary and speaking experience.
