Monbukagakusho Scholarship (Professional Training College Student)

Hello, I've noticed that many of the users here applied for the Monbukagakusho Scholarship for undergraduates or research students.

I applied for the training college student one, and I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who had applied for the same category as me, or had gone through this scholarship.

I'm going to have my exams on the 1oth July, and I've gone through the past year papers. The English and Japanese papers were not too bad, but it's the Math that's the killer. My goodness! I swear I didn't study like most of the questions found on the paper.

Is it true that shortlisted candidates will be selected based on the exam and academic results? Will they read the recommendation letters and use that as a considering factor?

we're on the same boat. sadly almost everyone gets a high grade on the english test. it's most likely that the math takes up most of the selection process.

dont lose hope , if we did our best then there's nothing more to worry about

oh my... it's quite disappointing to know that because the course I want to get in don't really require math. I've applied for Interior Design, and I don't think I need to calculate the angle of a curve (if there's even any) using those math formulas. I don't think I need any math formulas to determine how high my wall should be either...

i think they're using the math part to test our intellectual capabilities because there are tens of thousands who applied to Monbukagakusho this year all around the world. me too , business administration wont need to calculate the log of whatever but sadly i think it's a big factor. Let's hope for the best!!!!

i dunno if you're still there. i recieved the reply from japan embassy and i failed the scholarship. i didn't forsee that politics is also involved in choosing scholars. connections connetions tsk

oh my. I'm sorry to hear that. But how did you know that there's politics? Maybe there's just too many applicants from your country. Which reminds me, I was checking the statistics for last year, and only 1 person from Singapore got the scholarship! and who said this scholarship was easy to get..... sigh.

I think I'll just go for the test, and sleep during the math paper. lol. I can't possibly write " I didn't study all these topics when I was in school", can I? hahahaah.

answering only 5 out of 12 questions in mathematics b and doing well in biology, chemistry and english proved to me that mathematics is their basis for choosing applicants even in non-math related field. I feel sad.

Yay! My secondary school math teacher agreed to give me a crash course on math tomorrow! hahahaha. that's like so funny, because I've not studied 90% of the qs before, and I don't think I'm able to squeeze everything in within a few hours (my exam's on tuesday). Oh well, shall see how it goes. I'm just happy that my math teacher's willing to help me despite me graduating from the school 3 or 4 years ago.





now, i think i'll feel so damn bad if i didn't pass the test. everyone's like trying their best to help me. =(

hello! I had my test on Tuesday, and it was a nightmare. lol!
Firstly, I was late for the test. The reporting time was 8.50am but I reached there at 9.15am. Thank God they actually allowed me to take the test.
Since the 1st paper was English, I didn't have much problem with it, even though I had about 45mins to finish it.

Oh, and there were 13 people including me who signed up for the scholarship for professional training.

Next was Math. hahahahaah! I swear I was cursing non stop when I browsed through the whole paper. Except for those solving equation questions, I only know how to do 1, and I got that 1 question wrong. So it's as good as getting 0 for the test. Of course, I gave up in about 15mins time.

What amused me most was during my 45mins of day dreaming, I actually saw someone sitting at the opposite trying to copy her friend's answers. Rather amusing because the lady who invigilated us didn't notice it. She was looking at the trees and the cars outside through the window. lol. There was another person, I guess she couldn't do math too. She gave up like 10mins after me and she kept staring at the clock. lol. The rest looked as if they know their math though. =( that's bad for me. hahahaha

Next was Japanese. Nothing much I guess. The paper was rather easy except for the fill in the blanks part. That was horrid.

Oh well, the only thing I have to do now is to wait for the embassy to contact me. I do hope they contact me, even if it's to let me know that I'm not shortlisted.
