I went to the japanese embassy for the examination today.
I was suprised at how different the math&japanese exams were from the previous years.
Passed them though and will be having my interview next week.

Do you guys know how likely it is to get the scholarship if you receive an embassy recommendation?:?

Was it like a "BIG" difference? because in the caribbean we don't study that level of math only in college so I only studied from the previous years.

I wouldn't say the math exam had a BIG difference, but it was enough to throw me off quite a bit.
The japanese exam however was totally different from previous years☝
Nothing but reading comprehension. And I wasn't able to read most of them (I'm somewhere between JLPT 3 and 4)

This is how it was in Iceland, but I assume it's the same/similar everywhere

Had my interview this morning. It was really relaxed, mostly questions about why I wanted to study in japan along with some questions to determine my personality.

I got notified I'm being recommended for the scholarship about 2 hours later. The other candidate was recommended too.
So I'm not sure what the odds of me getting the scholarship in the end are. (if you have any idea DO TELL^^)

hi, im about to take the exams next tuesday. this may sounds stupid but, is it a must to pass all the epapers in order to be shortlisted for the interview? im facing quite a big problem for the maths paper (it's been 3 years since i last did my additional maths paper) but i doubt i will face any problems for the english paper. i heard it does not matter how you fare for the japanese paper though i would think it would be advantageous if you can ace it.


is there any websites anyone can recommend for maths tutorial? =( i am only notifed about it exactly 1 week before the exams. really need a lot of help here....


*to add on, i would like to ask, do they tabulate your scores by all 3 papers or paper by paper? meaning if i score well in the other 2 papers, but i failed one paper but i managed to pass in general, will it be okay?

in argentina is mandatory only to pass math and english

You need 105 points from math & english combined iirc
each test is worth 100 points so if you do well on english you don't have to do as well on math. But depending on what you want to study, having a low math grade will probably be to your detriment.
myself, I had a pretty meh grade on the math test, but I got the embassy recommendation anyway

because someone stated in the monbu (uni)'s thread, that it requires candidate to get a minimum of 180 score to be shortlisted for the interview. and that is going to be quite tough if im not going to do well for the maths paper (since i probably couldn't do much for the japanese paper as well. i'm only in between jlpt 3~4 level) and relying solely on the english paper probably wouldn't help much either.

I did, yes. Got recommended in the beginning of this month

Maybe it's a higher bar, 105 is just what I heard

Hello aptiva , i'm from Morocco i'm applying for mext scholarship 2011 , so did you get the acceptance answer from Tokyo ? and can you tell me how much did you score in the tests between english and maths ( japanese is optional as i heard )
