You've got some good points there, Nana.
You're right indeed to say MYV's voice is not the best. He surely doesn't have that smooth voice of Gackt or Hyde, nor the powerful one of Kyo. Infact, I'd go so far as to say - Miyavi's no singer at all! However, that doesn't stop him from using his voice in the most varied of ways and actually managing to do so very well (in my oppinion that is). Then again, whenever I listen to songs like 'Itoshi Hito' or 'Tome to Yuri' (first verse), I change my mind. Miyavi's voice IS more than a growl and a shriek (as some, but not you, have pointed out) - and Miyavi can actually sing beautifully - very soft and sexy even. What Miyavi doesn't do as a singer, is he doesn't sing in the 'traditional' nasal voice that a lot of jrockers use - I don't know if that's because MYV can't (that's probably why) or doesn't like that type of sound - but he doesn't sing that way.
As for his guitar skills - as said, they're excellent. And I agree that he should be showing those skills a little more frequently than he does. But to me, those 'hidden' skills are a comfort, something that makes me admire him even more - MYV does this and that, and a lot of the time you don't even notice how damn good he is at playing that guitar of his. BUT, then... at sometimes, like concerts, or in one of those rare songs, he just releases his skills and plays the guitar so that it could make you cry! Then it like it hits you how much hidden talent he's got (or.. er.. 'hidden' talent might not be the right word... I dunno ><) But off course, that's still no excuse to why he shouldn't be showing off those skills a little more...
What you said about MYV spending more time in front of the camera than with his guitar, composing - that hit me! You're right! *throws candy because you got a great point* But in some ways I don't agree with that; for, yes, MYV does spend a lot of time doing photoshoots, dressing up, being very 'visual', instead of caring about his music and being a musician. However, let's not forget that MYV and the whole 'MYV-concept' IS very much a style, and an image. I know I could get KILLED for saying this, *kills herself*, and please believe me, I'm not saying MYV's only good for dressing up, nonnonononononono, that's NOT what I mean. MYV's music is the most important, and that's what's amazing about him. But a musicians work is based upon him/herself, and often does the music 'mirror' the persons character. In MYV's case, it very much does (or I think so) - and MYV is a very very outgoing, 'visual' person. He is as much an 'actor' (and now I'm NOT talking about his acting skills in Oresama (>_<) ) and a 'clown' as he is a songwriter. If you watch MYV during live concerts, during interviews, during encounters with the fans, during photoshoots - you notice that he LOVES it. He's very social, and he does (LORD KNOW'S HE DOES!) know he's a beautiful person. That's why, I think, in MYV's case, it wouldn't be possible to be less 'outgoing' or whatever I should call it. I think MYV loves photoshoots perhaps just as much as anything else, save for his music (which he states he loves the most in the world). Since Miyavi started his solo career (sp?), it's been this 'image' - the beautiful guy who's always in the magazines, always doing this and that, always with a new style. And yah, MYV has a LOT of fans that are only liking him because of that, and not his music... That's quite sad, but I would blame MYV for that, I'd rather blame the fans for being ... shallow... And also, it's your own choice how you choose to love a person, right? (although nothing gets me more annoyed than fangirls who obsesses about an artist without even having heard more than one song...
)
However, IF Miyavi's constant being in front of the camera is actually stopping him from making more wonderful music, then we've got a problem... I'm not sure that's the case though... *worried*
As for the cancelings - there's no excuse (or, I'm sure there is, but I agree with you Nana) - they suck! MYV's already become notorious (sp?) for cancelling in America, and if you ask me, it's like he doesn't care, or at least cares less than he should... *throws a fish at him*. Although I don't live in America, and would therefore never be able to see him live there, I can still imagine just how dissappointing it would be. I would DIE if I was expecting to go to a MYV concert and then couldn't! Miyavi should know better than to cancel so easily, for he's done it more than one time...
Then again, MYV's becoming a really big, big star recently in Japan, and Asia, and he's got a lot to do. It must all be pretty exciting and busy for him. If I were him, I know I for one would not be thinking about .. say... Sweden, in first hand... Japanese stars have often been stars only in Japan, or in Asia, and it's not very common with japanese artists touring the western countries. (although, yes, other jrockers have done it) Who knows, the thought of holding a concert in front of a western audience might even scare MYV? ...
Miyavi's my number one. In every way. However, I must say your post was excellent in many ways, Nana. Also, great to get the tread going in an interesting way...
