Hello Everyone, I will be applying for the MEXT Scholarship this year and I have a couple of inquiries which I hope you can help me with.
First off, I'll start by giving some information about my academic achievements;
- I got a 42/45 in the IB (International Baccalaureate Program) a diploma that is a Year-12 equivalent.
- My high school diploma percentage (In my country its percentage not GPA) is around 93-94% excluding the last semester, which equates to about 3.8-4.0 GPA ranging from different converter websites.(And yes I have 2 high school diplomas)
- Got a 8.0 in IELTS about 2 years ago and improved since then.
My questions;
- Although the scholarship guidelines say that knowing Japanese is not a perquisite I'm still unsure whether learning it will give me an edge. Currently I know about 300-400 kanji (150-200 with full readings), can understand and do JLPT 4-5 tests and understand about 10-20% of tv shows. Now that pretty much all my examinations are over for this semester I'm devoting all my time to learning Japanese and progressing quite satisfyingly. So my question is, would learning Japanese make a me a more desirable candidate for the scholarship? If so any sources and advises are welcome!
-Another point is when looked at the past papers for the past examinations I noticed that they used a different curriculum other than my own. I would appreciate if anyone could point which syllabus they were asking the questions from so that I can study for the exam. (Like is it AP or EJU something like that).
-Lastly, this question is about the university and course selection. I really would like to study medicine and am positive that I can nail the language within the next 2 years or so. However the guidelines specifies that the language school in coordination with the applied universities will determine the university in which you will study. I'm kinda apprehensive about this since medicine is a really competitive course and that they would allow a mere gaijin like me to fill in one of those gaps. So yeah, my question is that is it possible to get into a medicine course or they'll just push me to some regular secondary selection course which I would not like to study or etc.?
-Also any knowledge about job opportunities after graduating would be appreciated? (They wouldn't just ship me back right
