go to long term visa and then student visa. I asked one of my friends who is already a MEXT Scholarship recipient and came to know that we just need the MEXT Scholarship certificate and contact embassy with that. We don't require any documents apart from our certificate, passport, application form and a passport picture. That's all I know as of now. Once I get my Certificate, I will call MEXT and check out other details, if any.

Anyway Which consulate will you apply form? Here at Embassy in Delhi you can't directly apply for visa directly unless for diplomatic purposes or some special conditions(not specified).
I guess I'll call the embassy once I get the documents.

I am from Nagoya Uni too!!!!! i have received my letter today via airmail!!!! the tickets not yet you have to fill and application form and the results will be announced after the 3rd of august.I applied to Nagoya University. Hopefully you will soon receive the result.

Did you tell the embassy that you are formal approval of MEXT Scholarship? My Uni said that I should go to embassy after Aug 14 because it takes time for MEXT to liaise with the embassy and to share information of new MEXT scholars.Hi guys! !!! I have contacted the embassy of Japan in my country and they asked for the certificate of eligibility even with the letter of admission they asked for the certificate!!!! So I have contacted the university to ask them and I will tell you what will be the reply!!!!!
I told them but the insist on the letter of eligibility because they said the Mext scholarship students application for visa is different from a private financed ones.
