Hi there,I have got the admission letter from university for the course in Sept 2016. Can I apply for MEXT by embassy recommendation in this April 2016?
The university also has scholarship by uni recomendation, but they will announce in July 2016. In that case, can I apply for embassy recommendation which also has a test in July 2016?
Congratulations! Thats so Awesome! This morning I was just accepted to the University of Tokyo!!!!!! I applied for university recommended mext scholarship but they gave me a university scholarship instead. Perhaps university recommended is the better way to go!
I applied for the school of engineering. I got in through the IME graduate program. I am so excited! I really didn't think I would get in since they give so few scholarships.Congratulations! Thats so Awesome!
Which graduate school did you apply to?
Haha ! thats great xD also since its a university scholarship, you wont have to wait for MEXT's decision (i think) so you are really luckyI applied for the school of engineering. Congratulations!Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and your information has been a lot of help.
I recently got short listed by Todai to apply for MEXT as well. I have my education background in Canada.
Does anyone know what are the chances of getting the scholarship with university recommendation? There is a lot of paper work to fill.
I am also very confused about the paper work.
MEXT ask for the Research Plan which include the Field of Study and Study Program (Research Plan). How long do you guys write for these documents? Do you just describe the university program to MEXT?
Another document Todai asks for is the Thesis Abstract. Is this document any different than the research plan? Sorry for the silly questions. I am very confused at the moment. Please help me.

Thanks a lot! I checked the MEXT website directly. It also mentioned it is supposed to be graduation thesis to access the academic capability.Congrats on getting the shortlist for MEXT!
For the MEXT requirements I heard that most people just use the same research plan you used to apply for tokyo. You should contact the university to figure it out though. As far as I heard almost everyone that is recommended by the university for the MEXT scholarship passes the MEXT evaluation.
Thesis Abstract is likely the abstract of the undergraduate or master thesis you already did. You can probably just use the one you submitted for Tokyo.
Just got a reply from the registration office. Confirmed! Thanks a lot!Congratulations!
As far as I know thesis abstract means the abstract of thesis or the graduation project you did for your bachelor's/masters. Confirm with the university once
Research plan and study program is about the Research you wish to do if you get selected.
I have no idea about the chances of getting a scholarship if you are recommended by the university, but i guess your chances will be really good!
thank you for your informative reply, I also have the same question as xinnz,i was accepted in the university and now i'm doing the mext application, but i just can't understand whats required in the form "Field of Study and Study Program"Congratulations!

Hi Mari, Congratulations to you too. I applied for tokyo university of foreign studies (TUFS), peace and conflict studies.Hi peryhan, congratulations for being accepted at a Japanese University. Could we now at wich university did you apply ? Which is your area of study?
I was accepted at a National University in Kyushu. If you want, we may share some information via -email.
All what is written in the "Field of Study and Study Program" is concerning to that you will do in Japan. Not what you had done. I wrote that document in the following way:
1 Field of study(専攻分野
- Research Theme : Hematopoietic Stem cells and leukemia (for example)
- Problem Statement (with citations)
- Justification (with citations)
- Theoretical Framework (with citations)
- Objectives
- Methodology
- Reasons to conduct your project in Japan
2 Study program in Japan in detail and concreteness(研究計画:詳細かつ具体に記入すること。)
Timetable
----------------
Here you have an example of a research proposal (via Embassy recommendation)

Hi Mari, Congratulations to you too. I applied for tokyo university of foreign studies (TUFS), peace and conflict studies.
thank you very much for your kind reply. i actually thought i would write my methodology, timetable and objectives in the "study program" and a general idea of why i want to join the field and why i want my research to be conducted in japan in the" field of study".
thank you for correcting me. as for the email, i'll PM you :')

What can we help you?Hi! I have my education background in Canada and am hoping to apply for Todai! Can I contact you in some way to share some information?
The biggest question is. If I apply for MEXT and do not get in, is it possible to still go as a self funded student (and apply for private scholarships)? (My home embassy Hong Kong only grants 3 MEXT a year so I suppose it is highly competitive). Also for the embassy recommendation, is it better if I first contact a professor? Thank you so much! What can we help you?
