MEXT Scholarship through University Recommendation

I have applied to MEXT via university recommendation. Steps I used as follow:
1. Basically I short-listed a few univ I wanted to apply to (in Tokyo area),
2. Check the graduate school website and find lecturers in my field,
3. Email them introducing myself, my academic and working experience (if any),
4. Skill and experience from studies and work,
5. My research interest,
6. Finally ask them if they accept student in their lab

I would also ask in second email if they would be able to recommend me through university recommendations.

Thanks God for my case one professor said he could recommend me through univ if I couldn't pass the embassy recommendation.

I applied to international graduate program in my univ, and I found out they are part of G30, which I was not aware about when I applied.

Anyone going to Keio university from this forum here?

@Cony-Nanny @miles5 Thank you all for your answers
Anyone going to Keio university from this forum here?
I'm planning to apply to Keio SDM!
I have contacted a professor in Keio, and he's the Dean of SDM too. and i also told him about my attempt for MEXT scholarship via government which i didn't pass on the written test.
should I email him to ask if he would be able to recommend me through university recommendations? because on the website it's stated that only university can decide to recommend us or not, not the professor.
and last question, when did you send your application? October or January admission?
Thank you !

Hi Naomi-San,

Ya I think you can ask the professor that is willing to accept you if he could recommend you to MEXT. Application opens Nov-mid Dec and I sent the application before deadline by mid Dec. Then I joined Sep the following year. The application typically takes 7-8mnths until everything approved.

The whole process is also described by Dhresta (10 Biggest Japanese Universities Enrollment (using MEXT scholarship) | Dhresta's Corner

All the best!

Hi Naomi-San,

Are you from Indonesia? My Indonesian classmate also shared her experience how she got her scholarship, but in Indonesian language, I believe you understand them. It is not MEXT but another type of scholarship.

Ganbatte!

Hi Naomi-san,
I think it depends on your case. For me, I applied in January 2015 and I got the result in May.
The professor is the most important.
I graduated Master in June 2014
. I invited to attend the Forum in the end of October 2014 in Japan from his Institute (Kyushu University). And my professor is the director. At this Forum, I got a short scholarship from his Institute for 5 weeks (January 5 - February 7) to exchange with his lab. It was the first time when I met him.
After coming back my country from Forum, I discussed with him through a few email. I asked him to become my professor for my PhD in Japan. And he agreed and sent me information of Mext scholarship via University recommendation. Then, I began preparing all of the documents which is required from Mext scholarship.
In January, I come to Japan for exchanging with his lab. So, I gave all of my documents for him at that time. And he helped me to submit to Admission office before January 19. I came back my country in February and waited to get Mext scholarship in May. This is my great happiness to study under his supervision. He is really so kind to me.
Thanks for his help so much! And thank god for meeting him.

Hi everybody,
I have received the results from Keio on monday : I have been selected!!! It is awesome!
@naomi-san & @miles5 : as you guessed, I am also coming to Keio next september. I will be doing a master at Keio Science and Technology.
Concerning the MEXT scholarship process, naomi-san, it was for me just as miles5 described it. I had not had to do all the examinations since there was an agreement between Keio and my university. In the end it was all paperwork and it took 8 months. Do not hesitate if you have any precise questions

@Mallow, which lab are you in?

You are university recommended too? So you would reach Japan 1.5months later?

@thaile @miles5 @Mallow heyy, thank you guys for being so helpful :')

Okay then, i will prepare everything for the next admission. Ganbatte! ^,^

@miles5, I will actually reach Japan in 1,5 month. I assume you too. I will join the Interactive Media Lab. What about you ?

@naomi-san : Ganbatte ! And do not worry if it takes time, it is totally normal

I think that university just was informed the result from MEXT and the procedure to announce to student is processing. You may send an email to ask about the result if you are worry. I think the result is coming soon.
