Hello everyone! I have just found this great thread while searching for information about MEXT. I also applied for MEXT through university recommendation this year. Hope that everyone will be accepted

Rana,

I am also waiting for the final decision from MEXT to study at Osaka University. Recently, my prospective professor told me the result will be announced in the end of June.

It seems that you've applied for the special recommendation program, of which results will be announced in the end of June (actually it is usually announced mid-July). I applied for the general recommendation program and will received result this May. Still waiting for it and the tension is building up every day.
I think you won't need to be very worried though, as I observed from previous years, special recommendation program has very high acceptance rate.

Hi... I hope I am asking this at the right place as I am interested to apply for MEXT via uni recommendation for my doctoral studies for next year.

I understand that besides embassy recommendation, there's the MEXT Scholarship via university recommendation in which there are 2 types i.e. general and special selection... What I want to know is can I apply for both? The university I am planning to apply to have the general selection for doctoral studies, and also a special selection programme which I am interested in.. So can I apply for both?

Also, if we are applying through uni recommendation, how many uni can we apply to? Or usually apply to one uni?

One last question, scholars of MEXT scholarship under uni recommendation, do they have the similar program as those under embassy recommendation? I mean, do they enrol as research student first, take up language classes and subsequently take the entrance exam for enrollment as graduate student? I am a bit at a loss here on their difference...

Hope someone can shed some light on it... Thanks a lot! And to those waiting for the results, wishing all of you good luck!!!

Hi, JYTan.

You are not the one who can choose the type of recommendation. The university will decide how to nominate you based on the program that you apply.

You can apply for many university as you want. However, if they select you as their candidate, you have to chose only one of them. If MEXT find that you are nominated from more than one universities, you will be disqualified.

As for the last question, please consult with the university/professor. Some university might asks you to apply for the Master/Doctoral program at the time of application.

Thanks for your reply!

Really? But there are some uni which open special selection programs for application... For eg Kyoto University... They have an application period for special selection for their Global Frontier in Life Science program... I mean, if I apply for a PhD in say, Medicine, in their Graduate School of Medicine; can I apply for the Global Frontier in Life Science program which is under special selection? That's what I want to know...

Meaning if I apply to uni A and B, and uni A decide to nominate me, I have to inform uni B and retract my application there?

If you apply for programs from the same university, they might allow you to apply for both. You should consult with university directly. However, in the end, you have to chose only one of them before they nominate you to the MEXT.

Yes. If A nominates you, you have to retract the application from university B.

Hello! I've been lurking in this forum recently to fish out news regarding the release of results. I applied in Kyoto University for Master in Graduate School of Biostudies, under the Global Frontier in Life Science program (English only program). I specifically told my prospective professor that I will be applying for the GFLS program so I believe you, JYTan, can apply as well (Gradate School of Medicine also has GFLS program). Good luck!

To add into that, my prospective professor told me that the application for MEXT scholarship by university recommendation is very tough, only one to two students per year in the graduate school I was applying into. Still I tried. Meanwhile, I will be preparing my application through embassy recommendation since the deadline might be done before I even get my results.

Only one or two accpeted every year? That's a bit too few for such a big university like Kyoto University, I think your professor mean the number of acceptance for the special program (GFLS). In previous post here, faruiz said that Osaka university has total of 21 students recommmended to MEXT.

Kyoto University has around 20 Graduate Schools. 1 or 2 per school doesen't seem like a bad number at all, due to relative small number of people trying this scholarship.

Angeous, my professor has told me that if I applied to the University recommendation method I could not apply to the embassy method on the same year. I don't know if this is something specific to the University, but I think you should check this with your professor.

Although I have already expressed my intention to my prospective professor regarding my plan to apply in the embassy recommendation if I didn't make it to university recommendation, I haven't asked him if it is allowed in Kyoto U to apply while having a pending application. I will ask him again.. But I have contacted the embassy here and they say its fine.

I very much hope you get the good new as soon.

I am new member of this forum. I applied for MEXT Scholarship 2015 (University recommendation). I sent an e-mail to my professor for asking results. He told me that it will be opened around April, but this time it seems to be delayed. So I am waiting.................
Please let know if anyone gets the update information.

Didn't your prospective professor asked you to sign a pledge? In that pledge, it is specifically mentioned that you are not allowed to apply for any scholarship, including embassy recommendation, once you applied for university recommendation... The worst case scenario is, if you don't get the scholarship through university recommendation this year, you may for the embassy recommendation next year...

He didn't ask me to sign any pledge.. so I have no idea what is it until now. I will ask him regarding that. Thank you very much Reni.

Well, I was sure we would recieve our results today (monday of the 3rd week on May), but as it's almost 3 pm on Japan it doesen't seem like I was correct.
God, the waiting is driving me insane, lol.
