MEXT Scholarship (Graduate Students) 2017

The enrollment will be on October.. I will only know the result some time after February.. So ya, mostly we will be classmate or what.. Lol..

Hi, I would like to congratulate all of you who passed the second screening process. We are getting closer to our dream.

Now, I want to ask if anyone know. Is it possible for research student to take other universities' entrance exam beside the entrance exam in the university they will be placed? And that question would lead to the second question. Will MEXT allow the research student to change university should the said student pass another university's entrance exam and fail the entrance exam in the university he/she currently placed?

Hello ssetiawan, I know someone who started as a Graduate Research Student at Chiba University and later on enrolled at the MA Program of a graduate school in Toudai. So it is possible. I think it will depend on your prospective adviser whether or not she or he will allow you to move to a different university.

I hope this info helped! Cheers!

Hi otokoloko, thanks for the info. It gives me a little bit of hope knowing somebody ever moved to different univ.

I am concerned right now that I would not be placed in my first choice (a private uni) which I favor a lot than the other two choices (national unis) due to the fact that the first uni really provide relevant courses with my undergrad degree and research interest.

Hello there ssetiawan. Even though your question has already been answered, I'll just add what the person responsible in my consulate over here told me regarding this very same matter. She said that it is possible to swap universities if you have your Professor's approval, however, due to the reality of selection processes in Japan (a lot of universities are really subjective when accepting or refusing a student for a Master course), it would be very helpful if you had an academic contact at the desired university (or having your current adviser contacting your prospective adviser in order to present you).

Hope you get into the University you want to!

Happy New Year 2017 everyone!

I have just received a message from the International Service Office, Kyoto University. It contains information regarding applications for Kyoto University's International Houses and other accommodation facilities. But I am confused. How am I supposed to apply for accommodation even though I haven't actually been officially informed by the embassy regarding the final information on the scholarship?

Also, I was wondering if anyone else from got similar message from International Service Office, Kyoto University? -- Maybe we can help each other out throughout this application process which by the way ends on 31st of January.

Hello Hamdi! Congratulations! I'm guessing Kyoto University is going to be your university. A lot of other people here have been contacted by universities BEFORE getting confirmation from the embassy. I'm guessing it's because the school dormitory needs to know how many people will come from Monbusho.

Anyway, just to be sure, I suggest you contact your embassy. Although the schools are not allowed to contact the students before the embassy does, I don't think they will mind. They're there to help you, so it is best to get a suggestion from them.

I also can't wait to hear from my embassy XD I'm so excited!!

Congratulation Hamdi,

I didn't receive a feedback from the Universities that I've applied yet, however Kyoto University is also my first choice and I can't wait to receive receiving the same message as yours. Which department do you intend to enroll? mine is the department of Graduate School Of Management. Therefore, I'll let you know if get any response from this University.

Congrats, man! Now I'm really anxious about this, as you're the second one to be contacted by the University.

In your position, I would file the application regardless of your embassy formally contacting you (as there is a limited number of dorms), but would attempt to contact the embassy simultaneously, explaining the situation.

Please let us know the development of your case, if that's OK!

As others have already mentioned some universities contact the students before the embassy sends the official results. So, congratulations Hamdi! Go ahead with the dorm thing! Thanks for the update!
I hope we get the notification too, I cant wait till February.. xD (Sick of waiting)

The embassy called me this afternoon to book a meeting, according the embassy employee, this is to inform which University they've allocated me and to clarify all the next steps off the process. Right now I'm feeling a mix of happiness and nervousness because by far I want to go to my first choice (Kyoto University) and I'm afraid that they could set me in another one, maybe I'm just being paranoid because both of the other two are private and Kyoto Uni is the only National Uni within my three choices. Anyway, the meeting was booked on next Wednesday and I'll share the details with you as I attend it, until that I'll be here dying slowly! :what:

Today the embassy sent me an email about passing the second screening and that I was assigned to Waseda ( my first choice), I am happy beyond words, I was really worried about being assigned to my third option because the tuition fees are cheaper there.

Waseda still hasn't contacted me; I will email them to start talking about accommodation and such.

Hello MatsuJun!

Thank you for your suggestions. You are right, I should probably contact the embassy in these two-to-three days. I hope your embassy reaches you with the good news soon!

I hope to start as a research student at Graduate School of Science (Mathematics). I hope everything goes well for you, and if you get any response, please do not hesitate to contact me. Maybe we can help each other out!

Thank you AruanM! I hope everything goes well for you. I am sure they will!

I truly fear the limited number of dorms since I do really want to be in one. I should probably contact the embassy and ask for their help because I am really confused right now. Of course I will let you know regarding the situation.

Thank you indojindesu!

I hope you get the notification as soon as possible. I truly hope everything turns well for all of us!

Congratulations!!!

I expect many of us will start getting those type of emails very soon.
I can't wait

Well, hope everyone gets his/her confirmation soon. I am starting with all the paperwork for the scholarship, and tbh I am slightly overwhelmed. I have also lots of work due to my Master, so I see this next 6 months are gonna be Hell

Congratulations!

May I ask, who did send you the letter. Was the embassy or the university? This letter is the official final information on the scholarship, right?

So now I've been looking at my email every half hour for the last 3 days.

It's driving me crazy. It doesn't help that I'm on vacations with nothing to do -____-

Hello all,

I have just received the news from the embassy regarding university placement. I got into my second choice which is one of the national unis. I am happy beyond words now eventough I did not get into Waseda. But that's really okay, I am very grateful that I'll be able to continue my education in Japan.

Hopefully everybody here will receive the good news as soon as possible.

Cheers!!

Yeah I got the same email last Wednesday 4th Jan.

You can go ahead and apply without waiting for embassy confirmation. I don't think the application is complicated, just click on the link in the email and submit your info. If the university is already contacting you about these things then your placement is decided, even if the embassy hasn't got round to informing you. My embassy hasn't officially confirmed either but my accommodation application has been submitted.

Congratulations! Thanks for the update!!

Good evening guys. I am happy to share with you that yesterday, I received an email from the University of Tokyo Student Housing services regarding accommodation options.

Anyone who's planning to stay at Komaba International Lodge?
I have been informed that I have passed the second screening, but I have not heard anything about my placement. I have still made my application to Komaba International Lodge, though. I find this situation a bit weird, but I also find the whole process a bit different.
