my country is the same though they only ask for 1LOA and more would be nicer i remember someone also did get a LOA and the embassy helped in them getting one it usually depends on the country......

I believe that the embassy will try to contact the 3 Universities that he has chosen in order to obtain a LOA as a last resource.

Don't you suddenly feel like this last 4 months of uncertainty have taken longer than the 3 years we have been waiting get this far? LOL

Hi Hsark, we are supposed to start between 1st - 7th April, but your embassy should let you know the exact dates..the embassy recommends 2000$ as a minimum amount to be taken before you leave to Japan because for initial one month period we wont receive the stipend..so better to carry at least 2000$ (approx. 2,00,000 yen)..this may be required for initial payment on accommodation, food etc....you should start receiving the stipend from the following month (i.e. May)do you guys when we leave if your to start in April ? and how is the saving up of that $2000 dollars its quite a lot of money

If applying through university recommendation, Department of Genetics is the only option. So ya, I applied for Dept of Genetics as well

Yeah I was thinking about this too. I already did a search about apartments and stuff near my lab :whistling: ( Over excited )So... despite the risk of being really disappointed in case I don't get the scholarship, in the past days I've been checking currency information in order to decide whether I'd buy Dollars or Yens to take to Japan. So far, buying Yens straight away using my local currency (Real) is seeming to be a better option, but some people informed me that buying Yen there with Dollars would cost less in the end, for reasons I don't really get. Have you guys started looking into practical matters such as this one? Any thoughts?
Hi Aruna, just read your posts. I think one of the best options is to carry a Forex (travel) card which accepts Multi-currency. You can pre-load this card in your local currency, and then you can use this card in Japan where you can withdraw cash in Yen (using ATM of course). Otherwise the way you said like directly converting local currency into Yen is a good option, else if you try to convert using Real-Dollars-Yen, you will have to pay cross-currency charges twice.

Congratulations!Hello to everybody!!! I am a MEXT research scholarship candidate from Senegal (West Africa). Here the embassy recommends only Two candidates and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. I'm really grateful of this forum and your precious support , orientation and help. I've got 3 Loas (Titech, Tsukuba Univ and Yokohama National Univ ) and Since I have submitted my Loas to the embassy for the second screening by MEXT , now I have only to wait. It is really stressful. But with fingers crossed, I hope that the long wait is coming to the end soon .
Thank you very much! I will study Social Informatics, Graduate School of Informatics. I think MEXT prohibits universities from contacting students about final selection, but some professors still contact students about their Study/Research plans
congratulations I think getting that response is the best, definitely means you are on your way as 1. Mext accepted you 2. Your university accepted you ......everyone else who just passed stage 2 is still waiting for a response on the university situationMy prospective supervisor from Kyoto University contacted me today! He had this to say:
"A couple of weeks ago I was noticed that MEXT officially accepted your scholarship application. Congratulations. I am looking forward to seeing you next April. "
He went on to suggest me some good books to read. On the other hand, the embassy did not contact me at all, and this is the (weird and) stressful part!
