I'm still applying for the scholarship... i have until the end of May to hand in all the documents.
My area will be International Marketing and International Business.

I think the pros and cons would depend on your particular situation and what your goals are.

The only difference between the April and Oct batch (at least to my understanding) is that if you go in April, you have 2 years as a research student and hence more time to take the entrance exam. If you go in October, the allocated period as a research student is 1 and a half years. so perhaps the number of chances you have to sit for an entrance exam is less.

Of course, if you're confident in passing it hardly makes a difference. Same goes for cases where you're exempted from taking the entrance exam.

If you're eager to experience Japanese culture and all that, perhaps going in April is better as you have more time to do so.

Frankly, if you have no commitments in your home country (such as work or studies), i don't really see why April isn't a good time to go. Why delay?

However, I don't see any distinct differences between the 2 periods.

I might be wrong though.

At any rate, good luck to those going for the test on 31st May.

I got the notification email to sit for the English Exam on 5/31 too. If you put down on your application that you've studied Japanese in the past, you will also have to sit for the Japanese exam. Results will be released towards the end of June, and candidates with Japanese language proficiency will have an added advantage during the interviews.

@udval, different countries have different timetables for the exams. you might want to check with the Japanese embassy of your home country ( which looks like it's Mongolia.)

the embassy called me two days ago , and the English exam will held on 20/may this month , only 4 days to go , and i am little bit confused , how the exam will be , right now am very nervous , can any one give me an advice ?!!!!!!

Hi, this is Ajay from India! I will be applying for MEXT scholarship 2010 for research student! Anyone else from India?

I have few questions.

I will like to do my Phd from a Japanese university, but I think MEXT scholarship last only for 2 years. Are there extensions?

If yes how hard is it to get an extension from a research student to Phd student?

Welcome. For your information, the MEXT Scholarship is for research student, and hence its duration would be 2 years.

As a research student, you will have to learn Japanese language and at the same time, be the research student in your university (in some cases, they are different). However, in most universities, you will have to sit for the entrance examination in order for you to proceed to your postgraduate studies - be it masters or doctorate course.

Summarizing that:
1 Research Student period: maximum 2 years
2 Masters Student period: 2 years
3 Doctorate Student period: 3 years

Upon passing you entrance examination, you will have to apply for the extension of your MEXT scholarship to your postgraduate course, in your case, it would be doctorate course. However, please confirm with your prospect university and professor on the duration of your postgraduate scholarship validity.

this is my 1st post.

I am from Indonesia. I am also applying for monbukagakusho 2010. The deadline is today and I've just submitted my applications to the embassy.
Too bad that the madam in charge didn't check my documents. She only asked whether I submit 5 sets of documents.. Actually I was expecting her to check my documents, so I know if miss something or not... >_<

hello everyone,

Does the order of the documents matter? for example, my order of each set of documents is:
-5 sheets :application form
-3 sheets :field of study and study program
-1 sheet : academic transcript
-1 sheet : recommendation letter from my advisor
-2 sheet : recommendation letter from my employer
-1 sheet : toefl score report
-1 sheet : medical certificate
-1 sheet : my undergraduate certificate
-1 sheet : abstract of my undergraduate thesis (final project).
I am worried because I've just realized that on the application form (page 3), it is stated that the abstract should be attached on the application. But, I put it in the last order >_<

I wouldn't worry about the right order. I think as long as you submit all the documents with good content, it should be alright. Although I am just assuming that. I didn't submit my application in a particular subscribed order, but it was not a problem for the embassy or at least they did not complain.

Hi, 2 days to go before the exam here in Libya.
the tests from previous years would be easy if it wasn't for the notorious "choose the incorrect part" question!.......really ambiguous , I either find nothing wrong or I find more than one wrong part. I'm convinced that even a native English speaker wouldn't do good in this question!

Q1- long and long reading passage - 7 Q
Q2- long and long reading passage - 8 Q
Q3- fill the gaps - the most noxious question at the of this question some one call me to move my car which was partially blocking the gate of some shops

Q4- MCQ i didnt remember if it was 15 or 20

Q5 fill the gaps in the passage 10 choices and only use 5

Hello mobos. I haven't taken neither the test or interview yet (most likely will do at the end of next month). That being said, I'd like to ask you about that test. Is it the english test? Did you write the Japanese exam as well? What did you do and how well did you think you did?

the exam was two parts the english exam also the japanese exam
i answered the english exam but i did nothing with the japanese exam bcz i do not know much ,,, but i am eager to learn japanese (( aregato ))
i think i did well at the exam ,, because they called me to join the interview ,,
first of all i came late , about 3 minutes , because of heavy traffic on road every road i took was blocked ,
when i intered the room i found four japanese people waiting for me , i started introduce my self , i apologied about my lateness explaining the reasons , then my job , then they asked me many and many Qs , i felt that it was the longest interview i ever had ,,
they told me that they will call me after one week period .
i hope i did well .

@mobos: how many candidates took the exam with you. It only took them a few days to grade your exams and then call you in for an interview? That's a super fast response -- I'm guessing there aren't many people applying for the scholarship in your country, is that right? Here in Malaysia, we have to wait about 1.5 months before the interviews.
