MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

I've never been so glad of being rejected from my first choice I'm going to Tohoku University guys!
I guess here in Mexico we all have the final result, yay!
Wow congrats
BTW can you please tell what was your first choice and did you get any communication from Tohoku before this or from your first choice?

Congratulations to everyone who has received the final confirmation of acceptance to a university in Japan.
I received mine today and it's my first choice, that is Todai.
I also got a mail about accommodation options and I've chosen Komaba because my department is at Hongo so accommodation fees + transportation costs would be roughly the same whichever of the two I'd choose, so Komaba was the obvious answer. The area southwest of Shibuya is really beautiful.

Hey
congrats to everybody who's got the confirmation and good luck for those who are waiting
I just wanted to ask if there is anybody who has been placed in tokyo institute of technology and eventually received information regarding dorms...etc.

Nope, we have not received any email from Titech regarding the accommodation, only an e-mail to confirm about our professors and graduate school.

Ritsumeikan University.
Mmm...I don't understand your question. Do you want to know if the university contacted me before the embassy did? Then the answer is no. The final result came directly from the embassy.
If by communication you mean if I talked to them then the answer is yes, but only when we were required to get the letter of provisional acceptance. During that period I contacted my sensei in Tohoku while Ritsumeikan just asks for your papers. You are not allowed to contact directly with the professor so I didn't and I didn't contact them either after to inquire about my application.
In fact I had to contact my sensei to get details of my dorm

Out of everyone who has already received their final confirmation, are all of you going in April? I've heard that students departing for October usually get confirmation later than those going in April...wondering if this is true. I don't see a pattern to how people are getting the results -- it would make more sense if universities or countries were announced in a certain order, but it doesn't seem that is the case. Just curious...

And did you receive the confirmation by the embassy ?
I have been informed recently by the embassy that I've been placed in titech but I received nothing from the university.
(The email concerning the confirmation of professor and department was around mid November).

I was waiting contact from my university about dorm and stuff, but now that you said that, I ask myself if I should contact them for further steps. I don't want to disturb, but anxiety consumes me. lol
The consulate only told me I was accepted by Tsukuba University, nothing about contact.

I am normally going in April...yes I think that those who are going in October receive confirmation later...

In my country the final results have yet to be announced and I'd even contacted the consulate and they assured me that they still haven't received any news from the MEXT. Perhaps, as per said, it varies by country. Thanks to another friend from Argentina, he has shared to me that Titech replied him that the application for dormitory would likely be released on February, we will need to wait by then. It's great that you've received the final confirmation on placement. ^_^. I'm still panic on whether I will be placed on my first, second or third choice or maybe none of them.

Congratulations to all of you who granted with the scholarship!

By the way, it seems that Kyodai had also started to release accomodation details and forms to all the applicants either through international student section or from prospective professor. On the other hand, I only received one from Kyodai (my first choice), so it could be that some universities will require scholars themselve to contact and enquire for more accomodation details.

Wow congrats

I applied Tohoku University as my third choice. So far I din't get any notification from there. Same goes to my second choice (Osaka).

My theory is that it is more or less by university type. So far I'm noticing mostly national university acceptances with a few public ones.... I think they're working through those who had national and public as first choices, then national and public as second or third choices...then they'll be moving on to those who have private as choices; I don't think I've seen anyone share that their embassy confirmed a private university placement yet.... just my theory though, no idea if it's valid!

Out of everyone who has already received their final confirmation, are all of you going in April? .

It was stated in the mail I received by the embassy (and not by the Universities themselves, oddly enough) that I will be departing on the first week of April, so yeah. I wonder what it depends on.

Results are out in the Philippines! Oh my God. I'm sooo relieved the journey is over. Several months of stress, and fretting at odd hours about whether you pass or not. DONE.

To those of us still waiting, I'm sure the results are coming by this month. Good luck to us all!

I don't know about that, considering my first option was a private university (Meiji) and my first was a national university (University of Tokyo) and yet I was placed at my second option (not that I'm disappointed by any means)... I think it come down to fees in the end, which change even from private university to private university.

Hi so I got all my admission documents from my first choice, University of Tokyo and they're asking me to send a photo for my student ID and told me they will let me know my room number for my accommodation in March, so this is all official right? it's such a long process I don't quite understand it!

URGENT QUESTION!!

I just received further details from my Embassy and apparently my appointed Academic adviser is NOT the same one I requested as well as the one that sent me the LoA??? Has that happened to anyone else??
I just sent an urgent email to my Embassy to contact me ASAP but they have been insanely unresponsive so far and I'm super stressed about this so I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else here. :\\

Hi, don't worry my admission documents said the same thing. I'm sure we're accepted for the full two years, it's written on all our documents and the MEXT minimum is 18 months. I've been told to wait til March to hear my room number for Komaba International Lodge Main which I presume means I've got a place in the lodge already.

Just received an email from the embassy in the UK and I will be coming to Nagoya University as well! A little sad it isn't my first choice at Waseda, it definitely seems they are trying to send more people to national universities!
But yay, the wait is finally over!!

Just in case some people were still perplexed on the issue, I received an email confirming what people have said earlier about the being accepted for only five months at Todai. Here's an email from the Int'l Student Section:

The scholarship for a research student will truly be payable for 24
months from April 2015 through March 2017.

As for the term of research of the University of Tokyo, all research
students are accepted for a period of five months or seven months in
principle.
However, as you mentioned, this period can be extended.

Example:
enrolling in April 2015
April 1, 2015 - August 31, 2015 (five months)

September 1, 2015 - March 31, 2016 (seven months)

April 1, 2016 - August 31, 2016 (five months)

September 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017 (seven months)

Hope this helps

We're in the same situation; I have received the same documents and confirmed with the Komaba Int'l Lodge. I'd be very surprised - though some people seem to suggest that - that MEXT would have 2-3 universities contact us about residences and send acceptance documents and then decide at a later date where to place us. That'd make the entire process very hectic for the universities. Plus, the email from Todai was titled: We have mailed a Certificate of Admission to you.

As for the embassy, though, I haven't got anything from there at all, which does not worry me much.

Yeah I'm emailed the embassy and they said just full in the documents and all the correspondence will be between me and the university for now. Are you UK?

No, Canadian applicant, I applied to the Toronto Consulate.
