MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

how are you guys going finding LOA. There have been some uni websites that have no information on how to apply for a LOA and have basically no contact details.

Also has anyone applied to kyushu u for a LOA ?, I cant find the website that says what there process is.

You could try contacting the International Student Offices of the universities. They're the ones who told me how to go about the application process to get a LOA when the source wasn't online or pointed me towards the online source if it was available.

Good to meet you all. It makes the process gentler knowing there are other people going through the same thing. I'm sure we're all knee deep in the application process... was just wondering what stage everyone has reached? All this waiting between every step is nerve-wracking!

Good to see alot of people are working hard to apply the scholarship.
In malaysia, we already received notification from the embassy. Most of us currently on the progress in getting LOA from our professors.

MEXT Scholarship for Research Students is only for graduate students or prospective graduate students at higher/tertiary education institutions. Then, there is also a scholarship for prospective undergraduate students.
 
Hey guys,

has anyone applied for a letter of acceptance from waseda. I sent my application on the 15th of this month as soon as i got my preliminary screening certificate. I have looked at there break dates and saw that they have school break until the 1st of september, does this also include there admin sections and staff ? which will mean my application wont be looked at until the 1st of september which might not leave much time to get a response.

I applied to Waseda university and had sent them the necessary documents for screening purposes. Regarding your concerns, from the e-mail that i received from Waseda University International Division, it stated that their office will be closed until yesterday, 19-August-2014. Have you sent an e-mail to the department to inquire on this matter?

I applied for LOA at Waseda too, but I did it in July and I already have my LOA at home. Cant answer your question, but maybe you should try out sending en email to Int office, I coummunicated with Mrs Tomoko Tanimoto ( substitute was Ye Han).Also, try out discussing this with your professor, my prof sent me email just after he received my documents.
Send some mails and see if they are all on vacation.

Where are you applying guys? My choice is Graduate School of Sport and Health Science. Just asking, looking for possible roommate
 
I sent a email to my prospective professor but he hasnt replied. I will send an email to the international office and see what they say.
I am applying for the Graduate school of information tellecommunication and science.

do you guys think we have a good chance of getting in to our first choice universities ?
 

I hope so! Heard some rumors that MEXT tends to prefer uni with lower costs...but in 99% of cases they respect your 1st choice. So far, I got LOA from Waseda and got rejected from uni of 2nd choice, waiting for the results from 3rd one ( dont expect to het approved). So, having LOA only from Waseda I think that MEXT wont have other option to think about, heh.
 
we were told that its better to have 3 Letters of acceptance. If you have 3 it looks better in Tokyo. I was rejected by my 2nd and 3rd choice and wrote more professors so i could get 3 letters
 
I hope to get in my first option, their timing for LOA is late September. Another month waiting!
Still waiting results from the other two options.

Yep, I was told the same, but then, you know, its stated that you can have up to 3 universiies...but I want to go to Waseda, nowhere else. Sent the docuemnts to other universities to show MEXT that I did maximum, hope thez will approve me.

But it will still be better to actually have 3 LPAs as we would not want to get rejected just because our first choice isn't selected by MEXT. I have received my 3rd LPA today by e-mail. We still have time until 29-August so don't stop trying everyone. We have reached to this stage so let's hope that we will be able to reach to Japan next year. ^_^
 
After the final selection which is mid December this year or early January next year. It is possible for us to choose our university say if we were to change our mind will MEXT ask us for the last confirmation as to which Uni we want to go?
 
As far as I know, it's not possible after the final selection. Judging from some people's reports from previous years, it seems that MEXT contacts the university/ies and tries to secure a place for you before telling you the final result. I've been told I have to finalize the preference order when submitting the LoAs.

It is Ok, to contact another university apart from the list? I have been rejected by my third choice
But it seems awkward to send the documents and that the university is not listed as a choice.

And in the guidelines says MEXT will only request to the named universities
"MEXT will request the universities named in the Placement Preference Form to accept the grantee, and place him/her there upon its approval in principal"

What do you guys think?

It may differ embassy from embassy. I got a new blank placement preference form together with the certificate of passing the first screening to submit together with the LoAs once I get them.
 
I am really worried having severe insomnia. My LOA from APU Ritsumeikan (first choice for my preference) was written by the Dean. Although I requested for a different supervisor I dont know how it ended up with the Dean becoming my supervisor. What seems to bug me was in the LOA there was no mention of what type of student I am (regular or research) it was simply left blank. I handed everything to the embassy already including LOas from my other prospective uni. Has there been a case where research students are rejected during the second screening of MEXT? From reading thru past years a number of undergrads were actually rejected at this stage.
 
Hi,

One of my LPA i got back from my professor also have a blank on the section regarding the type of student. I quickly made an enquiry to Japan embassy in my country and their reply was that they accepted any kind of LPA, regardless of how the professors wrote or prepared the LPA.

Have you checked with your preferred professor regarding the matter you faced? I think he or she will definitely help you gone through all this.

Thanks for the reply. I have also realised that I actually ticked and submitted the form ( the deadline in my country was 15th Aug)to be a regular student when I first arrive in Japan. Ive heard that by doing this it makes it harder since most people would prefer to be a research student when they first arrive then take an entrance to extend their scholarship becoming a regular degree student. What are the consequences of this error. Note: all my 3 LOAs besides the first one which was blank stated that Im a research student
 

I think the possibility to be rejected will be less since you already got the preliminary screening certification. =D trust yourself and let's make it though!
 
It's been a while since I last checked this thread. I was worried about my LOA but I followed your advice and insisted to my professors >_<
Good news is they replied and now I have two of my LOA! One from Tohoku University and other from University of Tsukuba. I'm still waiting for a response from Ritsumeikan but so far I only received an email one week ago from the international center letting me know that they're currently processing my application but they wanted to confirm whether I intend to apply for the english or japanese master's program. I hope I can get that LOA too >__<

Anyone applying to those universities?

Hi bcaapower,
I have obtained LOA from Waseda Grad. School of Commerce and one from Ritsumeikan APU... but, same with you I only want to go to Waseda, not other Uni. Do you think that MEXT will approve us on our first choice??
