congratulations! :) how did you get your confirmation? did you get an email from the embassy?

I've got an email from the embassy, but they wrote they will also send the official letter confirming that I've got the scholarship by regular mail.

People who've got the confirmation - can you tell which universities are you going to?

Tsukuba Uni. :)

Guys, I have a question (I know this has been asked several times in other threads but I am still confused with the replies). Can I just buy a simcard/Softbank plan so I can use my iphone (purchased in the PHL) in Japan? Thanks! :)

Today the whole neighborhood heard me screaming/ crying/ laughing after the email. Hello! Congrats to everyone and YEYY! I am going to Musashino Art University ;) Question, my university doesn't offer accommodation but the embassy still pointed out that I could ask my professor! No way I could ever do that. I would assume it is quite unrealistic e-mailing my professor regards to house hunting.! Basically after I find accommodation I am unaware of how to proceed. Do I notify the embassy..? how do I pay for it? I am a bit lost on how the process goes. Does anyone have anything extra that can enlighten me? I am calling the embassy tomorrow but yeah I thought I'd ask anyway..

Congratulations to everything who got their acceptance letters! ^-^

Congrats to all who got their confirmation! I got mine too, but there's something I'm really anxious about...

Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'd like to ask those of you who got more than 1 LoA and won the scholarship - do you write anything to the other professors who had sent you LoA? And if you do, how do you go about the issue of letting them know that they weren't your first choice actually?

A friend told me the profs know the process of application well and are aware of the possibility that they might not be the only choice on your list, and you needn't tell it to them beforehand, so I had been really vague in my emails... I got 3 LoAs, and my original choice was Todai (the prof there was involved in a project very close to mine), but then the prof from another univ. whom I contacted at the last moment turned out to be the nicest and the most interested in my research topic, and after he sent me the LoA, he proceded to provide me with advice and even some materials... Also, he seems to be a really interesting person. So I kinda started hoping that Todai would ditch me on the final stage, and I'd happily go to that another uni. But recently I got confirmation from embassy that it's Todai, after all. And I can't even bring myself to be happy, because I feel like sh** and now I have to write to that awesome supportive non-Todai prof that I won't be going to his uni and I REALLY want to keep communicating with him but am afraid he would be too offended/disappointed/upset/whatever...

Uhh, sorry for rambling. So I just wanted to know, did/do any of you have such problem? How did/do you handle this stuff?

Hello Hebi :) , well,I got 2 LoA and when I received the final confirmation I was asked by the consulate to contact the other university and professor and thank them for the opportunity, but to inform that I had been accepted to a different university. So that's what I did, basically. Both professors I talked to were very nice, and I don't know if they know in which position you have placed them, but I think that as professors they are aware that you are probably talking to other potential advisors, so I don't think they'll be upset about it. Well, when I told the professor of the university I'm not going to (Keio Uni) he said it was disappointing news, but yet that he was happy for me that I was selected, and even invited me to visit him and his lab when I was in Japan. And I'm definitely going because even if he's not my professor, being from the same area is enough to have contact, right? ^_^

Hi snow pedrop, and much thanks for the reply!! =) I feel a little relieved now...😌

Well I just thought that as Monkasho basically selects the first uni from your priority list, and only if that fails, they move to the second choice etc, that means that the profs can guess that if you're not going to their uni it just means they were 'lower' on the list... Maybe I'm just overthinking things ^^;;; Btw, did you let your profs know in any way beforehand that you are applying to somewhere else as well?

That's great that you are on such friendly terms with the other prof! :-D Kinda gives me hope too :')

...I see you're going to Osaka. Kansai is awesome! ^_~

Hey guys! Has anyone here applied for a special training college? Have you got your confirmation yet? I was already told in December that I got accepted, but I haven't got any more info since then, and I'm starting to get really nervous right now :?
