Hi, I'm pretty new here at the Japan forums! However, I was reading through the posts and I found you all to be so informative and helpful 
I hope you can help me in my dilemma 
I am a post-graduate medical intern (with a M.D.) studying in the Philippines and I was recently offered an opportunity to study Japanese in Japan and to take the Japanese Medical Board Exam by a Japanese Health Care Group. Ideally, they want me to work as primary care doctor for the elderly.
They may even offer residency to me, too. I would like to hear the experiences of doctors working in Japan while I am considering this offer.
The Medical Director said that they may try to utilize the Monbugakusho Scholarship for me to make this happen. I have a few questions, though:
1) Is the Monbugakusho Scholarship applicable to foreign doctors?
2) Is the Monbugakusho Scholarship applicable for medical residency? (I don't want to go through medical school again!)
3) What are the differences between the American medical education system and the Japanese medical education system?
4) Is medical education on the whole, good in Japan?
I do have experience in Japan though, because I was raised by a Japanese father and I have intermediate knowledge in Japanese (grade school level, haha). I am torn by this opportunity given by Japan and to just train here in the Philippines, where it is familiar.
