Looking for the right kanji

While reading I found a kanji that I couldn't find ANYWHERE. Since it was a picture, I cannot send it to you.

The reading is:

"juin" and the second kanji is 印
The "ju" looks like 見 with a fewer lines.


Could you help me?

If you find out what kanji is, could you please, let me know the meaning?

There may be some who know what you're talking about immediately and can answer quickly, but for now, can you find any specific radicals inside the kanji/guess the stroke order?

Attempting to "read" manga so early in the learning process and without having done a lot of kanji study is a recipe for frustration. Unfortunately, it takes quite a lot of hard study before one can hope successfully to actually read anything in Japanese. Until then the process is not "reading" but "decoding".

I vote for nekojita-san. It must be 呪印, since the OP is reading Naruto.

@ The OP, I completely agree with Mike-san. Manga seems too early for you to read.

The problem is that you end up spending the majority of your time tracking down kanji and vocabulary that are largely useless to you. Structured materials are much better for learning.

I don't why I bothered saying that. You're going to start a new thread every time you find a kanji you don't recognize....which will be several times per page....and expect us to serve as your dictionary.

You may find the site at nciku: online English Japanese dictionary and kanji writing tool useful, if you are not already aware of it (or some similar facility). You can draw a kanji and hopefully it will find it. There is also a facility at WWWJDIC: Word Search where you can select character components. There are various other similar kanji-finding aids if you care to seek them out.

Mike, I'm already using textbook, I'm learning grammar but I find myself totally lost about kanji. I know a lot of grammar stuff but I want to learn kanji too, that's why I'm buying some manga just to learn kanji.

Now I ask you again: What would you suggest about kanji learning?

I would suggest using a kanji learning textbook as a supplement to whatever you're using now. If that's not possible, at least find some graded kanji lists to learn from. That way you learn useful/common kanji first and make more productive use of your time and effort.

Attempting to learn kanji from some random manga is very inefficient. For example: I started learning Japanese when I was 19; I am now 46. This thread was the first time I have ever heard the word 呪印 and I would be very surprised if I ever see it again in my lifetime. On the list of useful vocabulary, it is at the bottom of the last page. The second kanji is common and useful. The first one is less so and there are many hundreds that would be better to learn first. Finding and looking up random stuff in a manga, you have no way of knowing if something is useful until AFTER you have done the work (= "wasted your time").

Lists should be easy to find. Some others currently studying kanji should be able to give you some good suggestions.

If you're strapped for cash, try downloading Anki, a free flashcard program. If you select File -> Download -> "Shared Deck..." you can find a ton of free decks for Kanji.
