Hi all,
I'm looking for the kyokashotai font (any format will do). I do have a limited version which does not have the full jouyou kanji set so it's not much use to me. I've also seen that a company sells it for 400 Euro which is definitely out of my budget for this (which is 0.00 Euro).
Actually, any font that looks as "refined" as kyokashotai will do.
Why I want this:
I'm writing a free web app for drilling kanji and would like to display the kanji in a pretty and readable font (I definitely don't like MS Mincho or MS Gothic which is what I have at hand).

Cheers!

Nieves, thanks for the link. I've looked around that site and couldn't find the font I was looking for. The only asian fonts they have are asian-looking....

Well... actually I DID find it using the search box (that takes you to some other site) only that they are selling it for USD$499 which is way beyond my budget. (fonts dot com/findfonts/detail.htm?productid = 286856)

Oddly enough this font shipped in the japanese version of WindowXP but I don't have access to that. Don't know why it's so hard to find it right now.

Uncle Frank,
I had seen that site before but none of those fonts (unfortunatelly) have what I want.
I think it will be best to show by example :)
The attachment shows kanji in three different fonts. From top to bottom:
  1. Kyokashotai (the light version without all the kanji)
  2. MSMincho
  3. MSGothic
Do you see how "refined" Kyokashotai is? I can't find anything even close to that (that is readable by beginners, of course).

That definitely looks better than MSGothic. It's a pretty good looking font at any rate. Unfortunately, I know nothing about where to find it (or fonts in general, to be honest with you).

Probably there is no free full version of 窶ケツウ窶ーテ按鞘?倪?佚 font. How about to buy a software for writing/printing postcard like 窶「M窶堋ョ窶堙ゥ窶堙? 窶「M窶ーツ、, ヒ?カ窶督シツ職ツ人? These softs have many fonts in the set including 窶ケツウ窶ーテ按鞘?倪?佚? and the prices are reasonable than average fonts packs(about 40~60 US$).

Yeah, I checked it out, too. I assume that お試しフォント in the site might be the one the OP already has or "the light version without all the kanji".

Indeed, the version available for download (NTMotoyaKyotai) is very very close to what I have but still contains a very limited set of kanji.

Anyways, thank you all for your replies. I'll keep digging...

(And if anyone finds it even if this thread is old, post the link all the same!)

Hey,
I know the post is now really old, but I have found one website, which may be of interest for you:
Japanese Unicode Fonts
I was looking for the kyoukasho font, too, and the epkyouka.ttf font on the page I linked fulfilled my requirements. Unfortunately I cannot tell how many Kanji are supported, but maybe it is a little help for you...

Greetings,
MiaK

The DFKyoKaSho-W4 link in the previous post may provide you with a font, but it may not be legally usable in software you create and sell unless the font has been properly purchased.
You can purchase the TrueType version (as opposed to, for example, OpenType) of the DFKyoKaSho-W4 font on several Japanese websites much more cheaply than the versions you can find on most English-language websites. For example, the font can be purchased for 3888 yen (as of the date of this post) on the Imagenavi site: ダイナフォント DF教科書体 W4 (DFP〜/DFG〜 同梱) Win版 - フォント販売のimagenavi

Hope that helps someone.
