So,
I've been searching the internet for information on foreigners being self employed in Japan. I've been living in Japan for the last five years on a US military base. I've also been running my own business for the last year here.
Business is going fairly well. However, as the months go by I realize more and more that I really want to open my own business beyond the base. Despite the fact I feel I may be a little ignorant on how owning a business works in Japan. Furthermore, I never needed a visa to live and work on base so this "dream" I have poses some serious transitions for me and my status.
So far I found information on the different visas available. However, it seems to me that you either have to be a student or working for a company (w/ a stable salary). So, one of my main concerns is would it even be possible for a US citizen to start a business in Japan and sponsor their own visa?
Does anyone have some info that could lead me in the right direction. Such as resources on owning a business in Japan... Immigration specialist... consultants... anything would be appreciated. Please don't think I'm asking people to do the research for me. I'm just having a hard time trying to figure out who I can ask and get the correct information I'm looking for.
Please feel free to ask me anything I may have left out of my post. Also, I'm not sure if I even posted this in the right area, so if not please let me know and I'll move it.
