Hi Guys,
I have been studying Japanese for about 1.5 years now. I have almost finished Genki II, I review a series of flash cards nightly, listen to Japanesepod101, learn some kanji weekly and have a tutor for an hour a week. I am going to attempt N5 later this year.

I feel my listening is my weakest at the moment because I don't have many resources other than Japanesepod101. I want to watch Japanese tv to build my listening skills but I don't know what the best approach is, what should I do to learn from Japanese TV?

Any help is appreciated :)

If your listening is really weak it doesn't matter what you're listening to or even that you make a conscious effort to catch what you can from it.

It is far more important that you increase the amount of exposure you have to spoken Japanese so that you start to get familiar with patterns and rhythms of the language. Simply doing active listening practice for comprehension purposes won't do the trick alone.

I'm not too sure I follow? What do you suggest to increase my exposure? I thought adding TV to my routine will be adding to my exposure?

My point was that you should keep something playing, whether you're actively listening or not. Doesn't matter what it is.
