Quick question on the use of 面白い: I sometimes have problems when I want to express in Japanese that something is funny. The reason is that I've heard both 面白い and おかしい mean "funny," but it seems that 面白い is used more for "amusing" and おかしい more for "strange." I'm never sure if my meaning is truly conveyed. Is there some more accurate word for what we sometimes express as "haha funny?"

貴様 (きさま) -- probably the most insulting "you."

How about 楽しい?

Next word (just learned today): 麻薬 (まやく - drugs)

You are correct in guessing that 面白い is used more for "amusing, funny" and おかしい can be "strange."
あの人は面白い人だ。He is a funny man. He is an interesting person.
あの人, ちょっとおかしいんじゃないの。He is a little weird, isn't he.
Also, 頭がおかしい means "crazy".
