Kanji identification

Please, kindly, help me to identify 2 outlined kanji in the attached
image.

These are 変 and 空.

変 has the basic meaning of "change" or "abnormal" (here "change").

空 has the basic meaning of "sky", "air" or "empty" (here "air").

There are various websites where you can look up a character by drawing it. The one I use most and find most reliable is LINE Dictionary : English-Thai, Chinese-English, English-Chinese Dictionary, which is really meant for Chinese but I find it almost always works perfectly well for Japanese too. Once you have the character in plain text you can paste it into your online Japanese dictionary of choice.

I have tried to find these Kaji by examine radicals (Jisho.org: Japanese Dictionary). But, unfortunately, I could not.

I discovered recently (duh!) that there is a separate Japanese lookup feature at the NCIKU site at nciku: online English Japanese dictionary and kanji writing tool

(Well... though I say "duh!", I don't think it is very easy to find!)

As I say, I've always had very good results with the Chinese facility, but I post this new link for info.

There seems to be a lot of crossover with Japanese and Chinese learning materials. I didn't know nciku had a Japanese portion, but things like rikaichan, tatoeba, and anki, which were originally for Japanese, are now being used for Chinese. I think Skritter started out for use with Chinese, but it has a Japanese feature too now. I find it interesting.

Could someone please help me identify these two symbols? One is supposed to be "Embrace" and the other "Release" but I've been unable to identify which is which. thanks!

I guess they are

抱 (hou) which means to embrace/hold
放 (hou) to release

To my eyes both are very badly written, perhaps by a person who does not know kanji at all...

I did research a lot before posting here and when I could not find any characters that seemed even close so that's what I was afraid of. I do appreciate your reply nonetheless.
