Just wondering...Gray reputation point square

Just a quick post, but i was wondering why some people have a gray square with an X in it where their green reputation points are supposed to go? Have they opted out of the reputation point system or something??

You can't opt out of the reputation system, but you can choose not to have it displayed. These members do not wish it to be displayed, so their rep is unknown to all.
It is in Options of your My Settings if you wish to remove it.
