Like many Japanese women, Junko waited until her early 30s to get married. When she and her fiance, an employee of a well-known firm, decided to tie the knot, she set her sights on making a home, putting away some money and starting a family.
Fifteen years later, Junko and her husband are childless. It is not that they cannot have children; it is just that they have never had sex.

And the hostesses and prostitutes many of the husbands visit are... ugly.

Of course, I have been very disappointed at the lack of libido of my Japanese spouse and noticed a lack of libido in many other Japanese marriages.

So true FHP. There were more than a few lonely housewives that I taught English to back in the day before I married. From the way they responded I knew they were telling me the truth about their unsexed marriages. It's sad that it's still going on today.Doc said:Do you blame them?
A very substantial role! I'm quite surprised as I figured that a Japanese man who married a foreigner would initiate sex with the wife more than they would with a Japanese wife. I am always amazed to hear this about Japanese men and their spouses. Why is that? I've read in books the reasons why, but I just could never understand it.kirei_na_me said:Of course, I have been very disappointed at the lack of libido of my Japanese spouse and noticed a lack of libido in many other Japanese marriages.

No, you're not the only one who thinks it's insane as I DO TOO! I believe it as I've heard it more than once from Japanese men. For some reason, I was told, after the family is established, many a Japanese men would rather have sex with an ugly hostess than their cute or beautiful Japanese wife. For some crazy reason they feel that way when the wife initiates sex and, for the life of me, could never comprehend it. When my J-wife initiates sex I'm all for it and do NOT think of her like that - unless it's "fantasy/role-playing nite!"I'm sometimes told I act like a prostitute if I initiate anything, and that's the truth. Maybe that was too much information, but am I the only one who thinks that is insane?

Of course, a partner is not a sex slave, but if someone isn't getting the affection they need, then that should be brought to the attention of the partner and the partner should listen and take the matter seriously. Sexual matters in a relationship are important. It's not just about "getting your rocks off," it's how a couple shows their affection for each other. And I don't think anyone should feel bad for wanting their fair share of that (within reason).

It's really bad for one's self-esteem too. Sometimes I feel like I'm the ugliest person on earth because of it. I often ask myself "What is wrong with me?", because of the way he acts. It can be very disheartening.
